Ive heard people say that Justin Thomas' 59 shouldn't count because its on a Par70 course.

I think its as impressive. -11 on a course with only 2 par 5s is amazing.
For the pros Par5s are eagle opp and birdie minimum. So lengthening a couple of the par4s to make them 5s wouldn't have a massive effect on these guys.

What are your thoughts??

That's a bizarre way of looking at it. Pars vary with different courses, that's life. The story is not 11 under, 12 under etc it is breaking a round number barrier. Where do you go next. It's an easy course so that doesn't count. It is less than 6,500yds so that doesn't count (I don't know if it is incidentally but you get the gist)

The course is on the PGA list, it is a sanctioned competition. The score stands and he is in the history books.

Agree with both comments, especially the fewer par 5 scoring opportunities. A 59 is a 59 for me, great shooting and to think he had a bogey on the 2nd is crazy!

Over last few years ive seen a few people need a birdie on the last for 59 and not get it done. To step up and eagle it!!
And off the back of a win the week before too...

Surely the course doesn't matter does it? If it was that easy then it would have been lower than 59 and there would have been more players breaking 60?

He still had to hit straight drives, pitch, putt etc so hats off to the man!

Counts for me, a 59 is a 59, no matter if its a par 70 or 72. Yes of course a -13 round is more impressive than a -11 round, but you can only play the course that is in front of you.

Of course the day and course matters, one of the best rounds somewhat recently was JB Holmes at Doral with a 62 compared to the field average of 73 odd, one has to take these into account. Great round but on one of the easiest courses on tour with no wind and where the cut might well come in at -4.

59 is getting easier all the time the Pros are hitting it so far now and they have every aspect of there game thought about and maximised, 59 will be nothing in a few years just another number, just a good score.

Enjoy it whilst it's still a thing.

59 is just a number, so is 60, they are only 1 different. Par is just a number too. Cant get exited anout it, except it is pretty good golf to watch.

What if par was 65? Is 59 still a good score?

I think we're talking about PGA sanctioned courses and events, I scored 59 at a 9 hole par 3 course once, wasn't great tbf.

Why shouldn't it count? Did he sign for a wrong score? Of course it should count, he shot 59!
Great round to watch and he played well, I think it's been said though, but 59 could be a more frequent score in the future with the level that players are able to get to now, some cracking players out there.

It's a great score. Most of the people that say it doesn't count because it was on a par 70 course probably cannot shoot 59 for 9 holes round the local pitch and putt. 🏌️
