5 wood or 18* hybrid

Depends on your course I think. I'm going through the same dilemna myself right now and I'm favouring the hybrid. Just think it will be more useful on my home track.

I'm a huge fan of hybrids. Kind of wish ping did a 15degree hybrid and I wouldn't of got my 3wood

It depends on you and your confidence level with both types of club.

I think the 5 wood would be easier to hit, but the hybrid more useful to a low handicapper/good ball striker.

19 or 20 degree 5 wood has got to be a similar distance to a 18 degree hybrid, well for me anyway.

Go with the one you hit the best.

In JPX800 (as an example) the 5 wood was far easier to hit, for me......

Personally I'd go Hybrid they are great and a 5 wood although it's very nice I find that they are too similar to your average 3 wood and a hybrid will give you more options for different kind of shots

I loved my old 18* 5 wood, super consistent off any lie but 1 down fall was only one ball flight. Now got a 17* hybrid to replace it. Can hit low penetrating balls or high floaty ones, also find the hybrid usefull around the greens for bump and runs and also for low stingers out from under the trees.

Being a wood player, i have loads of different shots i can play with them. I will be trying an Adams Super Hybrid XTD. Once Scott gets some shafts in, so it will be interesting to see the difference.

Just bear in mind that low lofted Hybrids can be swines to hit and get launching so 5 Wood for me

I would ask how far you hit them.

Reason I say this is I have a 5 wood, 17* (2H) hybrid and a 3 iron. The lofts are all pretty much similar, but they all go different distances, I assume down to the shaft length.

I started off with a 5 Wood, noticed I had quite a gap between that and my 4 iron, so I got my Fli-Hi 3 iron.

Still wasn't happy with the gap so dropped my 60* wedge and added a 2H.

Now I have an even distance spacing towards the top end of my bag that I'm happy with.

I would also add that if you have a faster swing speed, the hybrid may suit you better. I had a similar thread a while back and Murph said the swing speed would play a factor between a fairway wood and hybrid.

My swing speed isn't brisk enough to get the most out of a hybrid so I opted for the fairway wood with the hybrid to plug the distance gap.

As people on here say. It's not what it says on the bottom of the club, it's how far you hit them.

For me its a no brainer, Hybrid every time, so much so that i ditched my three wood for a 16 degree hybrid and i get more lenght and a better ball flight from the hybrid.

Im a decent ball striker and i just felt the 3W was a bit chunky and also as im not the straightest of shooters the 16H helps me out of the rough.

It is a preference thing though, if you are confident hitting one or the other then thats the one you will hit better.

I would say it depends on your game.

Knowing your course as i do i would say 2 iron or Hybrid would be the club for me. Not sure i would want or need one around fortrose with the wind and all.

Down to personal pref.

U may be interested to know, Ping G10 Hybrid range, included a 15 degrees rescue club......

I've never owned a 5 wood but currently I've got a Ping G10 15* hybrid which occasionaly replaces my 3 wood and a Taylor Made 18* hybrid which I love and sits just right between the 3 wood/15* hybrid and a 3 Iron.

If u dont have a hybrid, get one as more flexible than a 5-wood ( which is similar to your 3wood) but then again in depends on the track you play
