5 minute search time

It doesn't take 4 people every time to find a ball. the others can take their shots if its deemed a tricky one to find. The closest to the guy looking should hit then help and finally call over the farthest if the search continues to be fruitless.

If it looks a real tough one to find then on occasion is might be helpful for the whole group to go directly to look for the ball. Good card going, no one behind to hold up etc.

Its all real common sense stuff.

Or everyone searches for their own and then joins each other upto 5 mins and still let people through if need be, 15 mins could see 1 or 2 groups going through and slowing down the field,

No chance, if a 3 or 4 ball. By the time you wave them through, they do their pre-shot routines, play their shots, get back to their bag etc, and before they take their second shots etc, chip/putt or are out of sight, it would take 1 group at least 15 minutes to be out of sight (on a par 5), or finish the hole on a par 3 or 4.

Exactly and the 2nd 3 or 4 Ball could be on the Tee waiting to play or on the fairway on a Par 5,

Quite a few times I have been in games where no one had a watch to check time taken in searching.
So why don't electric trolley manufacturers fit a 5 minute push button timer.

Whats's to sort out assuming you've hit the fairway or first cut and the ball is visible. It would be reasonable to assume it's in front of the lost ball so not as though you can play first, if you're sticking to competitive etiquette, so why not get involved straight away. I know I do as I see it as a common courtesy. Of course, if there's any element of doubt you're own ball is in trouble then of course look for that first, but I think the assumption is the other PP's balls are ok and they should help

Sorry Martin but you haven't read what Gary wrote, sort out yourself, if your ball is in trouble look for that as your ball is your responsibility and theirs is their responsibility, if yours is safe then help straight away, common sense as others have said, but as Robin posted, he helped his pp's first and then after finding his with some difficulty he felt rushed and it got in his head. When playing in a singles comp, imo, you should put your own game first.
