Am trying to fit myselves to a set of iron shafts and the guideline fis for your five iron... I reckon I am swinging my five iron at about 85 mph and have a slowish tempo... which gives me a Project X 5.5... I guessed this from the fact that I was swinging driver at 103 mph...

Am I right in guessing that... if not what should I get...

Relative speed vary, but the standard assumption is that the 6 iron speed is about 85% of driver speed. Therefore the 5 iron would be a smidgen closer because it is slightly longer. I have a 6 iron speed around 86mph and driver around 100-102, so you are probably similar. I have used PX5.5 and got on fine with them and now have PX in the new Titleist woods. Slowish tempo usually means to err on the softer end of a the range of suitable shafts.

I'd always err on the side of a little soft in my irons for the simple reason that they're easier to swing when your game is a touch off or you get tired. This would be even truer with a smooth swing tempo.

I carry my 5 iron 175-180 and use a regular flex shaft.

Nikki, I assume you have hit a club with PX5.5s?

I say this, as I thought I was between a TTDGR300 and an S300. Therefore I assumed that a PX or rifle would span the range that I needed. I couldn't have been more wrong, and hated the PX and rifle shafts. They felt so wrong. Too light, and I didn't have a clue what they were doing in the swing.

Worth trying, or making up one iron to test before spending alot of time and money building a set you don't like.

Opinions vary on the relative stiffness of TT DG and PX, but most experienced PX fitters say that S300 equate in stiffness to PX 5.3, but to Rifle 5.7. This is part of the comparison problem, Rifle and PX stiffness ratings are not interchangeable.

Also, PX are slightly lighter and have a different feel from TT DG, so some people feel they play softer when really they are playing lighter. Others, maybe including you, simply find the stiff but light feel very off-putting.

Well, Have tried the DG R300 and S300... I hated them... I prefer the PX 5.5 (which I also tried) and like the way They ive me the ability to release through the ball, so that my hips don't have to block off the shot... like I was doing with my old Regular 90 grams cheap stock shaft in my current Irons... I also think that I hit my 5 iron a little bit more than 167 yards (167-170 meters roughly should kind of figure it out, my best shot with a 5 iron went 190 meters, but will probably not be replicating that for a while :() I have the feeling (wit PX 5.5's) that I can really go for the shot I want to play (unlike current shaft)...
