I am constantly hearing about cutting the big stick down to 44" and getting better results.Has anyone done this and did you get the improvement you expected?

I haven't done it yet. I was going to have mine cut to 44.5" but was worried about the change in swing weight. I think I may send it back to Ping and have them make the adjustment and keep the swing weight at D3.

Drawboy.

I had mine reduced from 46" to 44", i'm 5'10" BTW. I am definetly longer and more accurate as a result. However this followed a specific custom fit session in the company of golf club makers - not pro' salesmen.

I will never go to a 'full length' driver again, as for me the results are clear to see and benefit from.

for further info look at my 'proper custom fit' post.

Hope it helps.
John.

Rather than cut the club why not just grip down the shaft a bit if you want it to play shorter ?

I have no idea how long my driver is, but surely it would just be tickering at the edges? If you want to be a better driver go and get properley customer fitted and try out a 44 inch shaft whilst looking at the best fit for you.

I had a 45.75 driver cut down to 45....improved things marginally.
I can imagine that quite a few players would genuinely benefit from playing with a more sensible length driver. We all know (those of us that are a bit dodgy!) longer = further, but probably less accuracy.

Then again, I'm not one to talk.....I think the Wilson Spine is 46"

When I was fitted for a driver the best bit of advice I was given was to reduce the shaft length. When checked on the face tape the amount of balls that came out of the middle of the club increased dramatically when compared to to the dispersion on the Burner driver I had at the time with a 46 inch shaft. If I remember right I think he said that every inch off the sweet spot on the club that the impact occurs can cost over 10 yards in distance so shorter shafts are the way forward for me and kept that length of shaft in my FT5

My driver was built at 44 inch and i have found i have gained clubhead and ball speed and i hit more fairways compared to my old Cobra pro
