4 woods

I am using a R11 3 wood adjusted to 16.5 from standard 15.0 effectively making it a 4 wood. I actually replaced a Ping G10 3 wood with this club. The G10 is a great club, mine was low launching with a Prolaunch Red Stiff shaft. You won't go wrong with a good condition G10 :thup:

I went for the TM RBZ HL 3 wood. A 3 wood with more loft... best of both worlds.

I have the same in the stage 2, nailed one finally on 17 today just shy of 200 yds total! that was with a super slowmo swing and 3/4 backswing, these things dont half go I tell thee!!

I had the g10 4 wood and loved it, was the best club in the bag :thup:

Has the 4 wood really made a comeback. I'm not so certain and wonder how easy it to get a 4 wood in say Cally HotX etc. Not saying you can't but don't see it as a readily available option. What does it give over the 3/5 wood option and surely there is a big gap then between driver and 4W. Just interested in why a lot of people seem to be opting to this

Well my drives go about 240 when I get one out of the screws and my 3 hybrid goes about 200.

Currently my 3 wood goes about 140 roughly 18 inches above the ground and 30 yards left to right. I know all of this is a swing fault but if I can get a bit of confidence like I have with my driver I'm sure it'll go a long way towards helping me.

A shorter shaft and a bit more lift can only help

One that I happen to agree with.
The difference between most 3 and 5 woods is about 3 degrees of loft and 1/2 inch on the shaft - virtually the same as the difference between irons or put another way about 10 yards or so....And that's on good hits.
But I bet most amateurs can't consistently hit their 3 wood 10 yards further than their 5 wood or vice versa.
The real difference is neglible for most of us.
To me, having a 3 and a 5 is a waste of a club. Something in the middle is far more use.

It took me about 10 minutes online to find somewhere that had a Cally X Hot Pro 4 wood w/stiff shaft. Possibly bricks & mortar stores keep 3's and 5's but not 4's, but there's so many online stores now that most of the time you can find what you want.

What it gives me over a 3/5 wood combo is a space at the other end of the bag for the wedge set up I like.

In terms of carry distance, there is about 20yds between my driver and 4 wood on normal swings, and another 20yds to my 3 hybrid. If I am further away from the green than a full 4 wood I will settle for not getting on, and it's easy enough to grip down a couple of inches if my hybrid club isn't quite far enough.

Them's my reasons anyway.

I have tried using a 4 wood in the bag a fews times but dont find it very usefull to short to be an extra driveing club and not to much longer than a 2 iron really without the workability

A bit of a thread resurrection to say that the G10 4 wood is a piece of urine to hit. I wish I had put one in the bag years ago

I got a secondhand G10 as an experiment, thought yeah this works, but the COR was not maximised on fairways. I had an MP titanium 3 wood that was just massive and I knew that there was more distance to be had. I looked around tried the RBZ and th Nike Nexcor VRs, the Nike felt more consistent and I then started to shop for a shaft. At the moment I am using a vts silver and its okay but I think a little too high spin. I have an Arthur Extreme to put in it (pro did not want to do it, because of a swing fault). But I think it gives me options from the tee or fairway, which improves scoring chances.

I use a 4 wood. The Callaway Black 4 wood, use driver and that.

It's a great club, you would have to go a fair way to get a nice club I think...

I've used my G10 4 wood for about 3 years now and it really works for me. Much better than the 3 & 5 wood combination as I don't feel there's any material loss of distance over a 3 wood and I can have an extra wedge in the bag.

Not as long a carry as the driver off the tee obviously but I find it much easier to shape and thus get (a) in play and (b) a decent run after landing if I hit a draw.

Recently someone was talking about 5 woods, I still think 4 woods are excessive. I carry just one (3 wood) and a driver.

Do people really need more than two or three woods in a bag?
