4 woods

Not in many years. I had one for a short time and rather liked it but have always carried a 3 and 5.
In your case, if you have a 15 degree 3 wood and 16 degree rescue, I have to say that a 4 wood (to use as a single club) might make sense. Seems a waste of the others though.....do you need to dump a club to keep to only 14?

I have one, a old Callaway WarBird. and carried it with my Driver last year, .....when i was hitting my driver half decently.
Damned effective club too

This year, having ditched the Driver for most of the year and stuck with a 3Wood, I dropped the 4 and carried my original identical 5Wood.

If, and when, I start hitting the Big Dawg well again, the 4wood will come out to play again.

Its an interesting idea and means I could dump the 3 and 5 woods and carry a LW all the time. The problem is there just doesn't seem to be any around. I've seen some strong 3 woods (almost a 2.5 wood) and only once did I see a strong TM 5 wood (R5 I think). I guess all the manufacturers see 1,3 and 5 as the standard fare and so don't produce them.

I've got a Cleveland Launcher 4 wood. 17 degrees and it goes a mile. Easily as long as the Titleist 906 F4 3 wood it replaced, I was hitting it 230 yards (SC measured) the other week. It means I can carry Driver, 4 wood, 3hybrid, 4 hybrid 5-pw and 3 other wedges. I've never found much real difference between a 3 and a 5 wood anyway.

Mizuno do a 4 wood in the F-60 range, Ping G10 and 15 have 4 woods as do the new R9. Nike Sasquatch 4 woods as well I think. Callaway have done a few in their time too. Just search "4 wood" on Ebay and you'll have plenty of choice.

This is my current playing set up:

Nike sq2 driver 10.5
TM R7 draw 3 wood
16,22,25 deg progen hybrids(also got a 19 deg)
6-sw Di9+Di9 aproach wedge 46deg
wilson tw7 60 deg lob
wilson putter

Ive got a Nike T40 4 wood sat here, its a little scratched with a firm shaft, could be convinced to sell it for a tenner plus postage if you wanted to try one and not lose an awful lot in the process. might need regripped and buffed up.

I have a Nike Sqr 4 wood dont carry a 3 wood.
Picked the 4 wood up about 5 months ago and use it on all tight drives and off the fairway, fantastic club would not be without it.

Honestly Dids, its wonderful, fairway or rough.
Although its got a largish head it just works so well. Best fairway wood I've had - and believe me I've had a few! - Get the right shaft - gold is the soft tip, red is the stiff tip - and you're away. Being superceded by the new DST so the price of the Launcher is coming down.

Thanks Imurg - 3 woods and me have never had a stable relationship, especially from the fairway. So, as I won the 2nd division yesterday (another £50 into the coffers) I can see a purchase coming on. Bye, bye 3 wood and utility for the rest of the winter.

Funny that Chris.....mine was a warbird! I had just about every warbird model made (10 and 12 degree drivers, 3 wood, 4 wood, 5 wood).
