I have a 36 hole final coming up in a couple of weeks and we are allowed to have a caddy. Last year i also qualified and I asked my grandad, don't get me wrong he is a great bloke but he talks the game of a 3 handicapper but is actually a declining 19 capper and always tells me how to play or what I've done wrong if I hit a bad shot and that's not what I need.

Should I ask a friend of should i hear it alone? Or what's your guys experience with caddies in club finals?

I can see a lot of advantages but I'd use a good golfer who can keep you calm, club you properly and course manage you around

Just get someone who knows what he is doing to carry your bag.
Ask him to keep quiet unless you ask him for his opinion.
Try and get someone you play regularly with who knows your game.

just doesnt make sense at all, why change what you are doing? why take advice from someone whos not caddied for you before, how does he know your game better?

I play with a lot of single figure players most weekends in the roll up and so all will have seen my game and know what I am capable of. Apart from anything, it's someone to talk too and not allow yourself to think too much (something I can do, especially if I am playing well). A second pair of eyes and someone who can talk you out of any poor decisions. I would jump at the chance if I was in the OP's position in the final and could find someone to do it

is this just a normal club KO comp? if so treat it like every other comp, chuck your bag on the trolley and have fun against your oppo

Its a strokeplay comp, we have 4 qualifiers throughout the year and 16 qualify (Max 16HC). 8 2 balls play the 36 and the lowest Nett is the winner. Its one of our 4 board comps, last year I had my Gdad as i didnt know my PP and wanted someone to chat too and in the end i came third but this year i asked my usual PP but he didnt qualify and is working so im thinking i should probably go it alone.

Oh so it's not an actual match play final? More a club champs format? Just talk to the chap you're playing with!! If you don't know him, you will at the end.

We havent been drawn yet but i know about 80% of the clubs members now so should be okay. Just wondering if it may benefit me having someone along side!

TBH i wouldn't bother in stroke play, just treat it like a normal game.. end of.

if it were match play there could be some help if the caddy knows your game and your oppo has one

I was going to offer, but this is right! Your caddy MUST know your game otherwise it's pointless. Play well !!!!

If it was me, I would be asking someone who has seen me play a lot recently, roughly knows how I play and what distances I have and what type of shots I can pull off if required.

If you' haven't played with a caddy before it can be quite confusing and end up leaving you in 2 minds a lot over shots.
Iv had a caddy and caddies for others. If I have one he more or less just carries my bag and maybe assists sometimes but he doesn't tell me what club to use or what shot to play. Just takes the weight of the bag/ helps me find balls and lets me play myself.
I see it quite a lot a club championships when people have caddies same as you had, 19 handicappers trying to read a 3 cappers putt for them. I really don't get it, flip side is Iv caddied for higher handicappers and told them I would only assist if they asked, sometimes some of the lines they seen on putts was miles out so it helped out there.

Think you just need someone to carry the bag. Anything else is too much info.

Find someone who you can chat to, carry your bag and let you zone in when it's your turn to play.

Make sure you agree boundaries etc before you play. Nothing worse than arguing over who should pull the putter out the bag four holes in...

Get a mate who knows your game he will be the best help you can get he will also know when to shut up !!!!
