Not to hard to see which part of my game I have to work on. Playing off 27 at the moment but am actually hitting the ball really well at the moment. Some iffy drives getting me into trouble but my irons are great for me at the moment. As soon as get either on or just off the green though, things go horribly wrong.
Scored on 17 of the holes yesterday but it could have been so much better. Only made 1 putt over 4' and threw away what should have been 4 pars by 3 putting. Had a spell on the back 9 where I 3 putted 5 out of 6 holes.

Bob must be getting soft in his old age. Not so long ago, he wouldn't have mentioned a lesson and would have had a V-Easy ordered paid and in the post to the OP before the second mail on this thread had been posted

And for me. The point is old age has slowed Bob down it seems and he can no longer get the deal done while the OP is bemused and befuddled by his smooth talking shenanigans. It's actually a great kit and I regularly use it on the putting green for my chipping and putting stroke

It might not be a wristy problem though.
It could be just too much movement in the lower body, head up too early, aim, set-up etc etc.
The OP could buy a V-Easy which would almost certainly help, he could buy a new Scotty or, even though CMAC may not agree, have a lesson which would certainly highlight any issues in the stroke and set-up.

If you get up to standard with your putting, you could be a real bandit for a while! :mmm:

Putting really comes down to only 2 things.

1) Judging the line and pace of the putt before you make the stroke.

2) Executing the stroke so that the track of the ball follows the above.

You need to find out what you are bad at doing. Judgement, execution, or a combination of the two. Lessons and time on the practice green will help.

Biggest problem I am having is judging pace. If I seriously underhit one on one green then I seem to seriously overhit it on the next. I usually putt better in the winter when greens are slower. I haven't had a putting lesson from a pro but may consider it. I also seem to stab at short putts I have tried to correct this but in the attempt to putt smoothly I hit them way too hard.

A putt should never be hit, the ball should just get in the way of the stroke.
The longer the putt, the longer the stroke

Try adopting a nice regular tempo with all your putts. Download a metronome app for your phone/mp3 player (they're normally free) and use the same tempo for all lengths of putt, just varying swing length to vary distance hit. There's some numbers on the net somewhere which suggest the most common tempo for tour players (they are all very regular with this apparently) which you could try for this.

It may seem a bit paint-by-numbers, but will probably be good enough to minimise the real distance based shockers.

This wS me a couple of months ago, putting was awful 3 putted more than not. Got myself some pointers from books and net etc and spent 3 hours on week just on the putting green. Said before I used bobs stance width to control distance. Now averaging 30/34 putts a round. I no longer dread getting to the green. Oh and stopped having a little peek head down until the ball is well on its way.

Just a quick question, and I think a lot of high handicappers over look this. How do you grip the putter ? Do you use a normal grip in your fingers like your other clubs ? If so, the putter grip is more of a palm of the hands grip. Those flat bits on the front of the grip are for your thumbs, with the club in your hands rather than fingers. This will give you a much more consistent strike, which will assist greatly to judging distance. If you get a different strike every time, you will never be able to feel that you can judge distance. Have a look on Youtube for putter grip vids, it may help.

I'll have a look, to be honest with you I would need to lift my putter to check grip. Think I hold it same as any other club, though I usually extend my index finger down the shaft to try and get feel.
