I think it might be time for me to give up my not-so-trusty Adams Tight Lies 3 wood.

It's always been very hit and miss and with my birthday coming up it's probably an opportunity to upgrade.

My current is a "strong" 3 wood at 13* but I don't necessarily need the same as I'm planning on putting a Mizzy Fli-Hi 2 Iron in the bag (or a secksy MP-32 if I can ever sort my swing out!) to bridge the gap between my 3 wood and 3 iron.

Just need something that's going to be easy to hit and give me a bit of forgiveness.

I've got a Mizuno MX700 3 wood (15 degree) and an MX700 17 degree hybrid, which fits nicely between 3 wood and 3 iron. Both are easy to hit, particularly the hybrid.

Personally, I like the TaylorMade Sueprfast range.

I hit my Superfast 3 wood about 230ish and it's pretty forgiving for anything not out of the middle.

You'll find everyone has their favourites. I love Callaway woods. Had Hawkeye, Steelhead III, and GBBII. So easy to hit and I personally like the short hosel look.

What I would say is if you are looking to bridge a gap between a 2 iron and driver think about a 4 wood(16/17 degree loft). Easy to hit, nice flight for a soft landing on long par 4 greens and these days goes as far as 3 woods used to, so also fine off the tee and for getting it up the par 5s. I love mine - Callaway Steelhead III.

It might depend on your course. Ours has 2 really short and 4 very long par 4's and only 2 par 5s so I feel the 4 wood does give me more options.

I tried a few last year
Ping I15
G15
Titleist 909f2

But the one that stuck in my bag was the Cobra S2, quite forgiving but you shape shots and the ball seems to hang in the air forever

I currently use the Wilson Staff fybrid 3 wood (the older one) and got to say it's one of the best clubs in my bag. I have a stiff shaft driver but a regualr shaft in the 3 wood and it doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

I would highly recommend the WS woods, although most people probs wouldn't.

I am going for my 3 wood fitting tomorrow, I cant wait, wonder what I will end up with. I just want something that does not go too high!

I cant recommend the Ping Rapture V2 highly enough, its 16 degrees and a great club. However if your looking for a superfast as has been quoted to you above I know Andy has one for sale which was only used for a month maximum.

I would suggest looking at a 4 wood too.

I changed from the MX700 3-wood to the G15 4-wood and I haven't lost distance but the flight is better and more hang-time (hence the length I suppose).

I did read in a magazine that some stats show that for non-pros many would benefit more from a 4 wood than a 3 wood, especially if you want to carry an extra wedge and therefore have to sacrifice a fairway woo.d

I'm going up the course tonight to hit a couple of different 3 woods, I've got a ping g10 with reg. shaft just now and find it just to flex. I've since change my driver make and flex of shaft since buying the club and now I'm just to inconsistent with my 3 wood.

All good suggestions but not necessarily suitable for you.

You just got to get your hands on as many models as possible, see what fits your eye then hit the ones you like until you get one that goes how you want the club to go (you may want a high ball flight with your 3 wood or even a lower more penetrating flight)

Yep. This is the plan. Just wanted to see what other people thought were "good" so I can get some idea of what to try.

Just got to find somewhere that does a good quality fitting in the area.

Interesting that no one has said anything about the new crop, R11, 910F, Cally Razr...

I've got a mizuno mx700 3 wood and i love it, so easy to hit from the deck or the tee, tried the full works before buying it last year, they're discontinued now so should be able to grab a bargain!

Mate I had a similar problem a while ago and gave up my strong 3 wood and purchased a 4 wood, that along with my 2 iron fills the gap quite nicely.

I struggled with the strong 3 wood off the deck but the 4 is very adaptable to any lie aswell as off the tee when the driver is misfiring.

Johno, why do you think you need a 2 iron?

I got myself one of the old clk mizuno 17 hybrids and now use this instead of the 2 iron. Find I can hit it high, low, draw or fade and goes a bit further than the 2 iron as well.

I'm playing on links courses and used to like the low ball flight the 2 iron gave me, but now I've found the hybrid works just as well or even better than the 2 iron. It was getting used for tee shots when the driver was too much and when the ground is hard, on 2nd shots when it very windy.

Just interested in your reasoning for having one?

I find it easier to hit long irons than I do hybrids. I've just never been able to hit hybrids and find they look rather strange at address. Being the totally gear whore I am, I will be trying out all sorts to find what suits me best...Plus the Mizzy 2 irons are generally rather good looking. ;)
