3 Wood for improver

Slicing is a swing fault not the clubs fault.

If you really don't want to use the driver that's your choice, but isn't mastery of the swing/game our ultimate aim?

I'd personally fix my swing than be afraid of a club. Beside, bad shots can be done with any club.

The reply you dont want to hear.
Buying new woods wont help.
No point getting fitted for a new 3 wood and then having lessons.
Get yourself a Ping G10 3 wood, REG shaft, then have your lessons to improve your swing path and then practice.

Interested to know why you are specifically recommending a REG shaft?

I've noticed a lot of people suggested a "mini driver" now I tried one the other day as I was having an issue with my driver but what I found was that the issue I was having with the driver just transferred over to the "mini-driver" but I don't get the same issue when I use my "3 wood" how weird is that !...

ps, my "driver" is 10.5*, the "mini" was 14* and my "3 wood" is 15* !...

Surely rather than recommending clubs it would be better to fix the swing first then buy a new club? Once the swing is right you can hit anything.
Ps a 13 degree 3 wood is the same as a 'mini driver' - in my day they were called a 3plus or a strong 3 and like everyone says you need to master the big dog to come down ( that and your short game) so get a lesson!

I'm in my 30s and play quite a lot of sport but in an effort to hit straight I hit softly with my woods so I'm not sure what flex I should be using.

if I want to get down to single digits then being able to hit with a wood is going to be necessary, esp if I get holes which need a 180+yard carry

I'm guessing he doesn't need a stiff shaft just yet

Strange as I am usually better with my driver off the tee than my 3 wood...?! I certainly wouldn't not have one. I'd get a lesson or two, sort the swing, then evaluate. Don't blame the tools!

hmmm....

If you want to get down to single digits, your driver is going to be one of the more important clubs in your bag. On the assumption that you have a finite amount of time for practice, I would forget hitting any other wood until you've mastered that.

???????????????

I hit far more 3Ws and long irons from the tee than drivers and I would certainly not call it the most important club in my bag. For me the most important club that is my bag is my 50* wedge.

Not to be too picky, but I think you'll find that I said 'more' important, not 'most'....;-0

There's a book (Every shot counts ?) which uses zillions of stats to come to the conclusion that long driving that does not incur penalty shots is considerably more effective for scoring than shorter, straight driving. But that's probably worth a thread of its own.

Still one of the great debates, short and or long and unpredictable

but you did say, and I quote:
"zillions of stats to come to the conclusion that long driving that does not incur penalty shots"

i think if you if you ask any golfer they will tell you the club that incurs the most penalty strokes in the bag is the driver.
