3 Putts...

3 putts happen. no one expects to do it but they pop up around once a round for most.

we should 3 putt more than pros as we spend less time practising, less time warming up and a lot of the time are unable to read the grain or don't even think about it!

Too many for me. Some rounds I don't have any, usually I have one or two. My last medal I shot my handicap on the number but had four three putts - very frustrating!

But, yeah, it's not always the putting at fault - it's hitting the approach too far from the hole!

My distance putting is gash so I need to make a lot of 6footers to keep the 3jack at bay.
I'd be over the moon with a 1 per round average. No idea what it actually is but it's got to be around 2-3 on average, some days more some fewer.

I'm on about 2 or 3 a round. It really can drive you mad, especially when you are trying to play sensibly (taking my medicine when in trouble) and end up dropping a couple of shots due to a 3 stab. Can't really afford to waste shots like that.

When they extended our course from 9 to 18 seven or eight years ago ish, which involved quite an increase in par 3s overall, my putting statistically got worse, because I was putting from a greater distance more often

Interesting topic..... I think it depends on how the course is set up as to what number of three puts is acceptable if any. In that I mean where the courses defense lies. For example take our course, not long, 6,250 off the whites, 6,450 off the blues, on occasion I am not disappointed with a three put as our greens are very large, have wicked undulations, slopes and breaks on them and are very, very quick particularly in the summer months, so this coupled with how tight the course is offers Beau's defense, however I do expect to hit more greens in reg. than I would on other courses (if I am hitting it straight lol). My last course was longer but the greens were smaller and on the whole flat, if and when I three putted on them I felt I had dropped shots, so to me it depends on the nature of the greens for us amateurs as to how many three puts are acceptable....
