Sorry for not much info as I did not realise it was my first post. Age 33 and have been playing golf on and off for the past 5 years but have been playing at Downshire regularly this year as it is a good excuse for a break from the family. Current handicap is 21.

Not that I have any need to justify myself but I hate smartarses who bang away without even considering there may be a legit reason. My mum is going into hospital for surgery and I'm going down for the weekend to help her convalesce once she gets out. Everyone happy now?

You are right in that you don't have to justify yourself. Nor do Lucan and Pieman - and they haven't!
If you care to check, my post was a response to Pieman and was meant to be a lighthearted observation that 3 of the 4 intending to make the meet had pulled out. I think that the grin smileys might have given that away.
