2018

Russia have never hosted a major tournament and rightly deserve the chance. England have had two...why should they get it again? It is a WORLD Cup and the tournament belongs to the World NOT fecking England or even Europe for that matter.
I have no doubt FIFA are rotten to the core but so are UEFA. England get the benefits all the time from UEFA along with Spain, Italy and the like. It is high time the English realised the World is far bigger than them.

Seems pretty obvious that England seem to think that they not only have a devine right to win the WC but also to host it.

Wrong again.

Really don't understand this, I know you are being provocative but hosting the largest football tournament in the World in the United Kingdom, would be something to generate new jobs, income into the country and would be a fantastic spectacle as well. God knows, we need something to look forward to and the Olympics just doesn't have the same appeal IMHO.

However, I still would maintain we had the best bid in terms of infrastructure, investment required and financial return. To fall at the first hurdle is simple an insult. That's not a divine right, that's fact.

Russia doesnt deserve the chance as it is a rotten country right to its very core.

Have you seen the blatant racism in russian football and the abuse black players universally get out there?

It is totally disgusting.

What will fifa do when a black player has 20,000 people chanting monkey noises at him in the opening match?

I dont get this anti-english thing either.

England have had two...why should they get it again?

Cos I want to see pictures on the front page of the Sun of people with gas masks on again and things like "For you Fritz, ze vorld cup ist ofer".
It makes me proud to be English.
Just like that goal Archie Gemmill scored for you in 1978 against Holland makes you feel all goosey.

I wonder if FIFA would still be corrupt if we'd have won with our bid?

We struggle with the Millenium dome, the thought of being ready for the Olympics is frankly pretty frightening do we NEED to have any other tournaments hosted here? I thought we are supposed to be in a financial blackhole not having a frikkin' knees up!

Of course they would, but we wouldn't hate them quite so much :D

And you really can't compare the Millenium Dome and Olympics to the World Cup bid. Why? Because the country is ready to host a world cup as it is! We already have the stadia!

From the report that PWC did for the bid, it would have cost a pretty 5.4 billion to host ( ) but would have returned a nett PROFIT of 3.4 Billion...Sounds like it's something we need to get us OUT of the blackhole!

I actually think if we had won the World Cup 2018 it would give the economy a boost

It definitely would. Jobs would have been created and the money that the host cities would have gained from the visiting tourists etc...Would have helped us out of the shite we're in now!

We had one of, if not the best bid. The time, money, thought and effort that went into it was clearly visible in the presentation that was given. The fact we were voted out in the first round is an absolute disgrace.

That's the thing, the stadia are all here so a 'large' investment is not necessarily required - certainly not on the scale of the Olympics. The return would have greatly outweighed the investment.

Russia now have to build 12 brand new stadia and a transport infrastructure which although seems great on paper, will not IMO deliver on legacy due to the lack of support in Russian football. So these 50k seaters will be quarter full at best once the WC party has left town.

One good thing to come out of it, at least it's brightened up Dodger (aka Jimmy Krankie) for a bit.

Times have been tough for the angry little Jock since Crackerjack finished.

"It's Friday, it's 5 o'clock........." ahhh the good old days eh Dodger!? :D :p

Did you hear Blatter rambling on,he is a fecking knob.I dont mind Russia getting it,even though i felt we deserved it,we by far had the best presentation. But this stinks, corrupt is too finer word.

Qatar will throw money at it, pitches will be perfect, infrastructure good but the whole thing will be sterile and passionless.
Basic rule is - the WC is always best when in Europe, is weaker when in South America or Mexico and is naff anywhere else -USA, South Africa. Japan/Korea etc.
Fifa haven't cottoned on to that it seems.
Last decent WC was 1998, have all been poor since. Top European club football is miles better.

Have you heard that the Qatar bid they are going to build 22 new stadium, and then after the world cup Knock them down, and distribute the rubble round the third world countries as building material

that won it for them, weird

Why do we all care? It's only an extra bit of footy on the tele which we'll watch no matter where it's held

... but I hope we get stone skimming after Scotland, wouldn't mind going to watch that live! ;)

No chance of Scotland getting it, they've blown their budget on hosting the World Stone Skimming Championships next year. Every Scot must be fighting back the tears of pride

;)

Us Scots love playing with stones, cos you English Bas**rds didnt let us train with weapons - never seen Braveheart?

Nope, not a big fan of fiction
