2016 Open

Troon in my opinion is tougher than Carnoustie when the wind blows. That back 9 is a slog. Very good course and venue.

Trying to find any deals/options for Troon at the end of May, but no luck so far. Just the £130 single round option, I can find so far. No twilights offered.

Does anyone know of any discount options. Also, how good is it.

My favourites, in order, so far is Carnoustie, St. Andrews old,Turnberry, Lytham, Royal Liverpool then Princes out of the open venues I've played. How would you think Troon matches up against these in terms of beauty and difficulty.

Can't help with any discount deals, I've never paid to play it.
As the craw says, the back 9 will murder you in the wind.
Not as pretty as Turnberry.
Harder than the Old Course.
Better than Lytham ( which I've only walked at the 1988 Open)

It also boasts the best par 3 I've ever played in the Postage Stamp 8th.

I'm playing it on 3rd April, special deal through SGU of £280 a fourball. The SGU runs this offer on a few of the Open venues each winter, I played Muirfield last year through it. The clubs donate 1 tee time per week through the winter and the £280's get donated to Junior Golf programmes I think. Have to say I'm looking forward to it, hoping to try Old Prestwick next year.
