Didn't know whether to drop this in the Corona thread, but seems worthy if it's own chat. Just heard about this today, apparently over 200 Brits were self isolating at a hotel in Switzerland, having all gone on skiing trips ?. More than 200 absconded, sneaking out during the night, current whereabouts unknown. Originally heard through wifeys news on Japanese TV, so looked it up. That has to be one of the most stupid irresponsible actions I've heard so far if true.

Sadly the pandemic has highlighted just how selfish many are in this country, with no respect for their fellow human being or rules of the land.
I hope they're flagged up at customs and barred from entry.

I have always been sceptical when it comes to press/media reports anyway, but when it comes to Covid the standard of reporting has taken the phrase “economical with the truth” to a new level.

Sorry, there absolutely has to be more to this than meets the eye. The article makes this sound like an orchestrated attempt by hundreds of people to break quarantine rules. That, in itself, is scarcely believable. But to all flee “under cover of darkness”? I’m not buying it.

There has to be a more plausible explanation.

I heard this on the radio this morning and can’t believe what selfish tosspots they are.

Surely the hotel owners can pass on the guests info to the authorities

I have read a couple of threads on a skiing forum that I go on occasionally that there have been Brits legging it out of Switzerland but not in massive numbers.

Some clown broke his leg and tested positive while in hospital.....insurance company is going to wash there hands of this one no doubt.

Worryingly most of the would be skiers appear to have travelled from London area to escape tier 4.

Incredible that people think it is OK to travel abroad in the current situation.

I mentioned the other day that the scales are finely balanced between the roll out of the vaccines and the village idiots not doing as there told spreading Covid. Like Ave said before” common sense ain’t that common”.

Totally agree with the “going abroad” point, but if these people drive back and stay in their car and come in to contact with nobody else, is it a big issue?

Not so much incredible as utterly, utterly depressing.

People are in it for themselves unfortunately. A good friend of mine that I honestly thought would have known better just went to Dubai for a week on the flight corridor.

Ok, it’s allowed but if you do that at least take the relevant precautions when you get home, just in case.

Nope get home and 2 days later sharing photos of spending Christmas dinner with his girlfriends family, Boxing Day with his own family and visiting grandparents on both sides!

Wouldn’t like his conscience if his elderly family members are struck down! Completely selfish.

It’s going to go mental with cases post Christmas I feel as people seem to hold so much importance in seeing family over Christmas.

If someone had said "250???" I might have believed it more.

200??
What have they done all phoned each other to arrange the great escape

It does read like they orchestrated a mass breakout. The reports are actually quite sketchy on details, what's more disappointing to me is that so many would consider going in the first place, and even if the number is half the reported number, it's still irresponsible and just plain stupid behaviour under the current circumstances.

Perhaps that just epitomises the whole "I'm OK to ignore the rules" thinking.
If you think anyone who breaks the rules in place for everyones health and safey are going to follow strict isolation rules (and that includes not filling up for fuel, using toilets and not forgetting not leaving the car deck on the ferry...)on their non-stop journey home then you're a more confident person than I.

Have you considered some/all of these maybe Brits living/working on the Continent who were unable to return to the UK for Christmas?

Nowhere in that report does it say they’ve all come back to the UK.

Even just 1 person doing it is 1 too many, and reflects badly on the whole of the UK.
But then what else do we expect.

No, see my post about were they live?
Tashyboy was, 100% in contact with his son who has been tested as positive, yet he feels it’s ok to drive his wife for a test, with all the risk that entails, and yet nobody tells him he’s broke the law.

I take it in certain circumstances forum members are exempt?

No, I take the same views as I have already stated. It's selfish, and the rules are in place to protect everyone, no-one is or should be exempt.
Of course, I can't help what some post when I myself am typing a reply or before another poster replies...;)

That isn't really feasible from Switzerland though is it? At some point they will need to stop, eat, use toilets, sleep somewhere etc. They can't return to the UK from Switzerland in a bubble that way.

The news I heard was the Switzerland is bringing in a 10 day lockdown. Lots of skiers were cutting their holidays short to get out of Switzerland before the lockdown started.
