I have recently taken golf up again and broke 100 in Jan then broke 90 last month. I am having lessons and about to invest in a new set of irons. Planning to do custom fit, but wanted thoughts around potential of improving / swing changing and custom fit being wasted.
Could my swing change that much?

Depending on what you are working on then potentially your swing could still become steeper/flatter as you and your pro continue to make changes. This means that arguably if you get something say 2 degrees flat now it may not be suitable a few months down the line. Some manufacturers may be able to tweak these (particularly if they are forged - harder to bend cast).

If you are happy that your swing is set and it is a case of refining the edges then why not go for it. You've a number of options. You can go somewhere like the Belfry where you can try a number of manufacturers and models or if you have something in mind you can got to their national fitting centres. Is C/F a viable option. Some will argue not and I've had both off the shelf and C/F clubs and played well (at the time) with both.

Seems to me that Custom Fit WOULD be a benefit, though you could still possibly be affected by swing changes in the next year (probably not this season though) or so.

Depends what sort of C/F you want and where you actually are based as to the likely candidates too. Whereabouts are you?

<mickey-take mode> I've heard Scott Gourlay does a great job, but you need to be near/go to Craigmillar Park and prepared to spend quite a bit too! </mickey-take mode>

Thanks for the comments.
I live 10mins from the internetgolfstore (http://www.internetgolfstore.co.uk/performance-golf-studio) so planning to go there as they can C/F a range of manufacturers, although yet to hit anything I like the look of the mizuno jpx 800 pro, and they are forged, but will end up going for what works for me.
I will also get pros advice on what he plans to do with my swing, although I feel my main issue is consistent striking as opposed to swing mechanics (but for all I know it is the same thing)

They have a good set up there and know what they are doing.

Scott who? Where did you hear about him? :-)

I'd definately speak to your pro before you make your mind up about commiting too soon.
Plenty of options in your neck of the woods and if you decide definately on one brand you maybe better to head to specific manufacturers facility.

I've seen 1 report on another forum - from an experienced, low handicap, equipment junkie I know - and it was not positive. He figured he'd wasted the £25 'fitting' fee - and he considered the significantly greater cost of his trip(s) to Precision Golf value for money!

Have heard good reports about another nearby studio http://www.performancegolfstudio.com/. They are so close, there was a suspicion that they may be linked/derived, though the names didn't ring bells with the guys.

I believe there's another in the Esher/Epsom area too, though may have moved to a 9-hole course/driving range in the same area. Not sure who/what facilities though.

I'd suggest you call both/all and ask what is involved in the Custom Fit - and take your own gear in as to calibrate!

There's this - ideal for the GM meet next week http://www.surreygolfperformance.com/about.html

This one has a good reputation http://www.pacheshamgolf.co.uk/golf_custom_fitting.htm

Both of these places have the same logo in their fitting studio - certainly looks like they are the same place?
