1st Hole - Score for the round

Just a random thought, some of you might keep stats & others just educated guesses

If you played your opening hole over and over 18 times to make up your 'round' of golf, how would your scoring be for the round compared to a regular round and would your handicap change much? (if at all)

Judging by my last qualifier I would have been 72 over par...

I was so disappointed but only now am I thinking how well I did to hit buffer ;-)

I would be much worse of , our 1st 472 par 5 from the whites, 449 par 4 from yellows. Medal tee is a tunnel only 5 yards wide for 1st 20 yards with OOB all the way on the right , gully in the middle, trees on the left plus 5 well placed bunkers 2 catching short drives and 3 catching short and green side and back:eek:.
Easy to find yourself with a downhill lie with your perfect tee shot and 2nd shot , even if in the middle of the 25 yard wide fairway . Not my favourite starting hole :(.

Our 1st is an evil 140-ish (+/- up to 10) SI 9 Par 3 19yard deep green with water front, right, (pretty badly, but 'achievable') left and behind. Results for last 5 rounds....Birdie;5/1;Blob( Water);Blob(Water-ish!);Blob(Water)

Am sure my handicap would soar if we only played on the 1st hole. It's a difficult 236 yard par3 (SI 8) . Looking at our website, over the past year or so, my comp scores, in order, have been 4 (27 times), 5 (12), 3 (10), 6 (4), 7 (1). Birdies are rare as hens teeth - think I've had perhaps 3 in 10 years?

Have mentioned before, when we have our more "social" comps with shotgun starts, we have a chap who runs a book for the captain's charity - pays out if your ball is on the green after your tee shot. With a field of say 72, and a normal range of handicaps, he expects to pay out only 3 or 4 times.

HDID shows an average of exactly 5 (par 4), would be 18 rather than 9.5.

I would like to be a 18 handicap again, the journey around that time was great.

But not if it is stroke index 1-10, as you'd get a shot there of your current handicap? So potentially you're playing it to your handicap (SI1-10) or if it's SI 11 - 18, then, as you say, 1 over.
