Playing semi-final of club knockout tonight and need to give my opponent 19 strokes; the most I've had to give in a match so far. Seems a lot! :-)

Any tips for keeping my head in the right place as the net pars and birdies rack up?

Remember first of all you're playing the course, if his handicap is that high yours is likely to intimidate the hell out of him, just play your game and let the score take care of itself. ;)

gave 20 shots in a match earlier in the year, i soon realised the game was very little about what I was doing and more about his play. Best just to keep the ball in play and put together a solid round

Yeah, that's what's disturbing me really. Usually I'm concentrating on my game and expecting my opponent to play well. This time I've got to hope she struggles; just doesn't seem "right".

her!

Beware of starting to feel sorry for her - remember that golf bites.

^^ This. She'll be thinking she hasn't a chance as you're such a low handicapper. If she starts ropliy then keep your foot down until the match is beyond her and only then allow some sympathy!!!

They need 19 shots for a reason. The shots are there to make it an even contest. Be prepared for the fact that you will make par and still lose the hole, other holes they'll make a horlicks of and you will win without having to putt. You have to focus on your game, but if they are making a horlicks of a hole make sure you don't.

As bobmac said, if you can most of the FIR and GIR then she will feel the pressure, and although 19 strokes is a lot, if your hitting the fairway and she's in the rough the majority of the time there should be only one outcome

Stop hitting it like a girl !!!! :):)

She has her handicap for a reason ha & you are playing off 7 for a reason, because YOU ARE DARN GOOD a this silly game girl , bang in the low numbers early & watch her fade away... only ball you can control is yours so keep your mind on that & go kick some butt ..

Good Luck ..

Oh yeah, in an earlier round she thashed a 14 handicapper 6&5. It's been suggested she's well capable of beating her handicap!

Funny... I'd much rather play another single figure player!

STOP this negative nonsence or youl be behind before ya even get there , she has had her day in the sun , time for her to head off into the sunset & you to head off into the final .. shes not going to be looking forward to playing a low handicapper , she is going to be nervous , feed off that .. pile the pressure on & watch ..

If she starts off very positively and is hitting GIRs (or close to), consider reigning in your own drives. Tee off with an iron so she drives ahead of you, lets you approach first and if you can hit anywhere on the green (even if its not close to the pin) it will put the impetus on her to do the same (even though she doesnt need to, but physchologically she might feel she does). If she's off 25 she wont be hitting them for long. A few hacks out of a bunker and you won't even need to putt.

Good luck and less of this sympathy nonsense, I'm sure the 14 h/c would tell you drive her into the ground.

;-)

She has beaten a 14 handicapper soundly so you have a moral duty to walk all over her.

she's going to Whup me 7&5 because she is really a 5 handicapper in a 26 h/capper body.............
she'll have 2 putts to win on every hole due to the h/cap difference............
I'm not worthy of my hard earned 7 h/cap..........

Right! now that I've got out in the open everything you've been thinking, you can print it off and throw it in the bin.........FOR GOOD!

On some other forum she's posted about having to play this low single figure golf God and how can she play someone as good as you! You're the good golfer, she is learning, now act like it with a bit of super confidence and go out and win by AT LEAST 7&5.

Good luck!

Handicaps suggest you are BETTER by at least a shot a hole than your opponent!

One thought (and its been said before!) fairways and greens! But being a 7 handicapper that's (probably) the norm anyway!
