... OK, so you have to come to Ireland between January and March to take advantage, but it's certainly a novel way to welcome in the new rules of golf. Plus you get to play one of Ireland's top 5 links courses for €60. The European Club is only an hour south of Dublin.

Glad this rule is relaxed, hope a few clubs do HIO prizes in their opens this year.........

Quite a few times when I have been in the USA I have played on courses where they have a competition (usually an attractive young girl selling it) where you pay $5 on a par 3, if you hit the green you get a sleeve of balls, a hole in one wins a trip to Vegas (if my memory is correct) for a $1,000,000.00 dollar hole in one shoot out.

Not a bad idea, as suggested a good format for opens, we could substitute Blackpool or Southend for Vegas.

Yep, the 6th hole. It's from the back tee though - so 200 yards!
