That’s interesting, that you already have so many on PMG.
I think I may give it a try.
How do you obtain a h’cap? By playing a certain number of rounds with a member?
Thank you, I assumed it was something along those lines.
Any idea of a ballpark on how many points may be needed to play on a winter Tuesday morning, or a summer Saturday?
The club website has a link to the details, but it isn’t working for me.
I also understand that points carry over if you...
I’m considering getting back into golf, but my job doesn’t allow me enough time to play lots.
I looked at the website of an established course near me, and membership is about £ 1100, but flexible membership, under a scheme called ‘Play More Golf’ is £560, an amount that appeals to me more...
Have played Newquay a few times, and it’s where we’re staying, but I’ve just looked and green fees have gone up from 50 quid to 80, which seems a bit of a steep increase.
Thank you…..we’ll give that one a miss then.
Last time we played The Point it was bad, and a few holes closed, but that was after a very prolonged period of rain.
Going to Cornwall for the weekend, two weeks time, and was going to book Trethorne and The Point, but noticed my local course was closed today, which surprised me as we haven’t had particularly wet weather lately.
Just wondered how wet the non links courses down there are at the moment?
We could...
Has anyone played anywhere in recent times where old school dress code was enforced?
Most club websites have dress code pages, although these days most caveat with ‘or any apparel available in the pro shop’. My theory is that all bets were off once Tiger started wearing round neck T’s, twenty...
👆This…..He’s made 24 straight Masters cuts and won fifteen Majors. There’s no possibility of ‘tainting his legacy’.
If youngsters don’t know how great he was, tell them to google it. The young don’t know anything anyway.
He’s 49 and Tom Watson almost won The Open at 59. Keep on keeping on Eldrick.
Thank you…..I guessed that was the case, as it makes sense, but just wanted clarification.
Gentlemen today was great company, and gave good advice, and 10 seems very good at that age.
He plays four times a week, which is great.
Asked an older gentleman, who was on his own, if he’d like to join us today, and had a very enjoyable round with him.
He was way more competent than me, hitting every drive down the fairway.
I think he said he was 73, and ten handicap.
It made me wonder, is age relevant when calculating your h’cap?
When an open comp at a club says ‘maximum playing handicap 18’, does that mean you can play if you’re a higher h’cap, but you’ll be treated as 18 h’cap for the purposes of the comp?
Or is it only open to those of 18 or below?
Slightly off topic maybe, but I use a carry bag all the time, and I’d be happy if courses were open at all.
My local course is closed more than it’s open, and I booked a round in Cornwall this morning, which was cancelled as I was leaving the house.
Having said that, there’s nothing we can do...
Great replies, and lots confirming that they’re useful for getting the distance for lay ups etc. As I think I inferred, I’m not good enough to require accuracy, just to know if the dogleg is 80 or 130 yds. I genuinely have no concept by eye alone.
Anyway I was looking online, and long story...
Are range finders worth it, if you’re a high handicapper? I’m 16 at my best, 20 atm.
I’m very wary of looking a lemon if I hold one to my eye, then chunk an 8i thirty yards, but there are times when I’d like to know the distance to the dogleg, or a tree, and I am absolutely useless at guessing...
I like brightly coloured balls. Callaway Supersoft in matte green are my ones of choice, but I’ve just bought 40 from Premier Lake Balls and it wasn’t an option to choose the colour, so I now have a mix.
I still lose plenty, but find them easier to spot than white ones, as a general rule.
