I read somewhere, not on the Forum, that most people tend to have a 'Go to' club, that they just feel totally comfortable with no matter how well, or badly, the rest of the bag is working.

Is this a reality? and if so what is your 'banker' club?

At the moment I would say mine would be the putter, not a lot of help when you're stood on the fairway with 150 to go to the pin! :(

I would probably have more success with it on the 30 - 40 yarder over an obstacle than I am currently having with my wedges though!

This one sounds strange but my 3 iron is my favorite club right now, its gotten me out of so many tough positions as well as being able to drill it under the wind, Id prefer to feel the same about my wedges but they are a little cool at the moment.

i generally carry on using the club needed for the shot.. i dont believe in go to clubs anymore although it might of helped as a beginner...its all psychological

Mine has to be my 7 iron. I feel it's the club between all clubs. Out of rough its great even in a fairway bunker. But the club I tend to goto around the greens would be the old faithfull 9 iron, I can lob it or keep it dead low.

Lately I've become very fond of my 56 deg wedge, now that shot, whenever played the way I want it makes me smile.

Yeah I agree with the psychological part, and as a beginner myself it definitely helps to be able to lay-up with a 6 or 7 iron that I have confidence in as opposed to going for it with a long iron or fairway wood.

I guess that is as much about course management as anything else - God there is so much to learn! :D

8 iron for me. from about 150 out to just around the edge of the green, such a versatile and comfortable club to use.

One day i hope all of my clubs are my "go-to" club!

I know that I can hit any club well on any given shot (just like I can shank any club on any given shot ;) ) and therfore I don't have a go to club. I used to when I first started only be able to hit a 7 iron as that is what I practiced with. Now it makes little difference, although I always seem to strike my 8 iron very well...maybe this would best be considered my go to club- even though I won't pick it just because I seem to hit it well. Since I bought a skycaddie I just pick the club that will give the right yardage and that is the club I go to (unless playing out of trouble etc)

Not for me. They all go about the same NOT including 3 wood and driver. I can hook or slice any of them. If I'm feeling really un-confident I sometimes ignore my 5w and 3h, and play with irons only off the fairways....otherwise, no...

I tend to use 3 or 4 clubs more than others but thats simply because the shot needed requires one of them, if I am in a bit of bother I choose the club I think will help me out without too much damage, I dont have a favorite 'go to club'.

I dont have a go-to club.

It is a defeatist thing to do.

I am mentally strong enough to hit a couple of awful shots, put them behind me and hit the next with confidence.
Not necessarily Jon, sometimes you are faced with a shot which has a low percentage of making it over trees or you can elect to play low or round the obstacle, a lower trajectory bending shot can sometimes be safer than the a low cut grassy lie when trying to get loft on it.
Each to their own I agree though. Golf is a mental game, it doesnt matter how you navigate your way round the course as long as you are happy with the outcome.
