You have to wonder about some people...

I'm afraid in this scenario many, many people will not get found out.

Oh they will, one way or another, I firmly believe in karma, it may not be the law that catches up with them, but they will lose their ill-gotten benefits most likely through their own stupidity or greed

Any examples?
https://www.stroudnewsandjournal.co...udster-pictured-jogging-while-claiming-60000/ - suspended sentence and repayments not fixed yet pending proceeds of crime hearing. Suspended sentence hardly a deterrent to others

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...dster-claimed-500000-benefits-caught-pushing/ Not all the costs to the public purse have even been included in this case.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/7...oman-stole-cash-disability-claims-working-DWP - jailed for a year, will no doubt serve less.

These are ones I've found in quick searches but know there was a case in the press a while back where someone was caught owing over 100K and I'm sure the repayments were set at something like £10-20 per week. In work now so can't spend time looking for the article but three random articles where significant amounts are involved and jail sentences minimal and the impact to the taxpayer significant

Cheers, 3 good examples and all punished rightly so.

In my industry we get lots of request from DWP to provide evidence of people working out, using gym facilities or requests for evidence of what they've been doing. In some cases the use of the gym can actually be valid to people with genuine conditions especially back problems but only done with correct instruction and working with the problem.

Sadly in other cases a lot are completely less genuine and ruining it for those people just trying to find a way to move and cope with severe problems.

I also had a neighbour where we used to live claiming housing & council tax benefits, income support as well as they couldn't work because full time single mum she couldn't get help with her young kids.. Turns out all that time she was also running a business from home selling Jiuce plus products and raking in a fortune, she got caught out and dragged to court where they had pictures of her at business awards, on holidays and nights out with her partner who it she claimed only stayed 2 nights in their home a week and rest time with his family son he could claim, except he used to stay every night and just come in the house through the back to not be seen, all of the evidence was from her own Facebook page. She got 150hrs community service and ordered to pay back 21k at £15 a month

This was the sort of thing I knew I'd read about. How many years will that take and will they even bother chasing the estate once the woman dies for excess? Ludicrous

It's a joke isn't it, she had more so many new things being delivered regularly she clearly wasn't strapped for cash, from what I know when they did the award of community service and £15 a month they did so with such a low amount as to not make her struggle for money.. Yet she had all. That out of them in such a short space of time it'll never get fully repaid.
