for some strange unknown reason over the last 3 weeks i seem to have developed a crunching in my wrist on my backswing. Now at first it happened just the once, but the common situation is for it to happen in the first few times when i swing the club during warm up or up the first hole, after this it stops. At first my pro thought it was because i was being wristy, but we check my wrist hinge position and grip yesturday and all seems fine.... we're both stumped.

Its on the left wrist and the pain comes from the small bone between the thumb and wrist. Im sure this isthe scaffoid bone and in my last sport this can be prone to breaking easy due to it being more of a grissle based bone instead of a full on bone. whats weird is once it happens i cant hold a club for about 5 mins and then it goes.

Has anyone else experienced such issues, its almost pointless going to the hospital as it seems to go within about half hour so i doubt an x-ray will show anything

Just take your clubs to the hospital with you, hit a few balls, damage the wrist, find a nice young attractive nurse to tend to you, and bob's your uncle, no need for future wrist injuries :D

Time for the doctor's I think and perhaps a trip to a specialist. Doesn't sound right at all and probably not something that should be ignored or you might end up being injured for the summer season. :(

Is your left wrist cupped, straight or bowed at the top of your swing? Different angles put different stresses on your joints.

May be worth changing your warmup routine to prepare the wrist for the swing. Or strengthening the wrist with a powerball or similar. Wrist injuries tend to be from poor technique, although you have already said that your technique is sound, or from lack of strength and/or flexibilty in the joint.

charlie, its only something that has happened recently so i cant see it being from lack of power in the wrist as im playing more how than i ever have. We checked my wrist angles right through the swingand at no point did the pro think my wrist was in a position that would cause any additional stress, It seems to happy if my hands where at 9 o'clock in my back swing. Im going to try warming up and stretching the wrst more prior to hitting any balls.

John, thats not a bad idea, one of the A&E nurses is a proper sort ;)

HRC, im thinking the same.

Taken from NHS website...

Usually, most people with a scaphoid fracture will remember a specific injury or fall. There will be pain around your wrist area after the injury. You may also have some bruising or swelling around your wrist on the affected side.

In some people, symptoms may be milder. Quite commonly, people with a scaphoid fracture just assume that they have sprained their wrist and they don't seek medical attention for some time afterwards. The fracture may only be diagnosed when they see a doctor some weeks later because of pain that is not settling or reduced movement around their wrist..

Go any get it checked out....

Having broken my Scaphoid before(right wrist) I can only advise to get any possible problem checked out.

The blood flow to this bone is very poor and can take a very long time to heal if broken or fractured in the wrong place and often doesn't.

Hopefully this won't be a big problem but I would suggest taking it easy until you have had and x-ray or at least had it checked out.

I was out for 6 months over the main season and put on 2 stone.
