Worst round for over a year

As some of you on here may know, last few months I've been playing really well, and started to play in comps at my home track with a view to get my H/C down this season. After playing a few rounds in the 80's socially I thought time start getting the comps entered after my first one 2 weeks ago, got hole in 1. Last week played to my H/C.

This week no idea what went wrong. 3 over on 1st hole par4. Parred 2nd, bogey 3rd, parred 4th, bogeyed 5th, then3 over on 6th, 7 over on 8th, 3 over on 9th, 3 over on 12th, 5 over on 15th, 8over on 18th. Finished 37 over for the round, on a good side I had 6 pars. Lost so many balls.

My putting was rock solid, my chipping is normally pretty good but thinned and scuffed my way round.

Based on double bogey being max for handicap, and taking this into account, there would be 17 shot to be deducted from scores above double bogey, meaning should be 20, my H/C is 21.0, will I get an increase or stay at 21.0???????

At least its done with and I can get back to playing proper golf next visit to the club, I did at least provide 4 hours of entertainment for my playing partners, and was still laughing about my round rather than beat myself up about it.

Any answers on H/C question or has anyone else had a blinder or blunder today?????????

I would expect you go up 0.1, glad your laughing about it I feel your pain fella. I'm still in shock of my nett 84 last week ( couldn't hit anything inside 100 yards) after shooting gross 75 the week before!

remember it's a nett double bogey that is used for handicap.

Would think its 0.1 coming back at you. I wouldn't worry too much and forget about it and try again next time out. No-one plays great (certainly at our level) all or indeed most of the time.

If it makes you feel any better I shot 92 in our monthly medal this morning. Started with a double, then 3 pars on the spin, a scrambling bogey on 5 and then the implosion started with an 8 on the par 3 6th.

Without question the worst I've played for about a year. I couldn't get anything right except Bizarely my bunker play which were the 3 best shots I hit all day. I can put a 3 shots down to the greens which have just been hollow tined this week ( why they do it the week before a medal is beyond me) but that aside it was still a pile of rubbish

It's only a game, so they tell me, mmmm not convinced, today was hard work..a net 85 OMG..and that included a 9 on a par 3..now that takes some doing..Still there's always tomorrow, and hopefully it can only get better..though still not convinced...Roll on Wednesday playing in a Texas Scaramble and Friday 2nd rd of summer KO..Can't keep away..It's a game and only a game mmmmmmm...

Stinker for me this morning.

First ever medal and wow did I play badly!

A nett 86! Ridiculous! My worst round in a long time. Oh well, onwards and upwards!

I'm slightly comforted to hear its not just me that has shockers.

Ive been so down since my round yesterday, worst Ive played for as long I can remember shooting 99.

The thing is Im having lessons and practicing a few times a week but I feel Im getting worse. Cant drive the ball at all, hitting nearly every iron shot fat and 3 putting most greens. First time Ive ever thought about giving up the game.

Worst game in 15 years today. I'm not too bothered, it happens, and t.b.h. I wasn't up for it after playing the front nine to 10 (with a re-load) and then the wind and rain chucked it down. 4 x 3 putts as well didn't help my score.

Weirdest of all was the inconsistency of distance, mostly way, way short of my normal which ain't exactly so far as it is.

If it had been sunny, I'd have been cross. As it was....

I played four times last week. Scores were 77, 78, 95, 78. For the 95 my ball seemed to be in tree hugging mode. My course isn't thickly wooded but I managed to find single trees on five holes and leave myself with unplayable lies. Also landed in two deep divots on the fairway as well as a plugged lie in a bunker. Just one of those days. Hit the ball quite nicely so wasn't bothered.

That is usually my trick. You can't blame me I was 50 miles from the scene and have witnesses. Actually I'm sure I heard "**** off Stannard" drifting into London on the wind at one point! I saw the score on HDID and knew it was a bad un. Didn't realise how or why. Get it out of the way now and get the swing back for the bigger events and the Jubilee Cup

But best of all when I finished my round yesterday I checked the result, and my handicap hasn't gone up hew:

Now just need to get it going down, I think it is all in my head, comps and wanting to play so well I think myself out of scoring. Any advice on how to approach comps to give myself a bettter chance of playing to my ability.

Oh boy, not a good day at the office. Shot 21 Stableford points in my first competitive match of the year recently - walk off smiling and try to take something positive from the round

An all to common problem once you get a card in hand, you need to try and relax and play one shot at a time and not getting carried away thinking ahead easier said than done!

Last weekend I played my worst round in years, and it was a medal. Since January I have had a rebuild with my swing and grip, and everything has been working well (The odd shank) Handicap of 18 but consistently playing to an average of 12. hate medals at my place, but always like to get 3 out of the way so that I keep current. With new found confidence I stood on the 1st and played it well just lipping out for par. The 2nd is a hole I decided to play as a par 5 instead of 4 due to its difficulty from the back tee. Decent drive followed by a decent hybrid to leave me just short of the bunkering complex - then thinned it straight in, finished up with a 7, gutted and now wishing I hadn't bothered about course management and gone for it. Angry on the 3rd a 200-yard par 3 and hit it straight left into the cabbage. took a provisional and knocked it to 7-feet, but found my ball and instead of taking a drop I decided to play it, 3 shots later I'm on the fairway, gutted and angry, finished up with a 9. This chain of events carried on all the way around until almost in tears I walked off with a gross 113, I was in bits and went straight home. hardly slept overnight and still jarred off at work the next day, but got back on the horse Monday night to find out what went wrong. Course was quiet so played the front 9 with 2 balls and managed to walk off with a gross 42 with each ball or in other words playing to 12 as I normally do, and still left some shots out there.
