Worst or most disappointing band/ act seen live

Blue Oyster Cult at the Monsters of Rock. Problems in the band, dire sound system, and they couldn't wait to get off.

Maybe it had something to do with the fact is was persisting down!!

"Problems in the band" witnessed by Fragger and me outside Dunstable Queensway Hall 2 nights previously..!

Slayer at the Portsmouth Guildhall. Only saving grace was that the ticket was free as my mate's wife worked there. Never heard such a pile of sh**e in all my life. Couldn't go as my mate's wife was my lift home so spent the night in the bar attempting to numb the din with alcohol.

Two nominations in the worst category:

Billy Bragg - Wickerman Festival 09 - The odd song punctuated by Socialist diatribe, utterly self obsessed and very, very tedious; best song on his setlist was one which was covered better by Kirsty MacColl.

Aye, was at that too.Bragg clearly didn't realise no-one cared and just wanted to party.I like The Wickerman, best festival in Scotland imo.

Most dissapointed I've been at a gig, two spring to mind..

Stevie Wonder @ The O2, crap sound and was the anniversary of 9/11...he insisted on a minute's silence.I left early and demanded a refund...wasn't alone.

Bob Dylan at Edinburgh Playhouse probably 14/15 years ago...was kinda expecting to hear a few classics, but no, new material only.Left early and went to the pub.

Like all Bragg gigs, which is a shame cos he is a good writer and performer if he'd only shut up between songs

PS what was the Kirsty McColl sonog - it was probably hers in the first place as she was quite a prolific writer and was regualry covered by others

Michael Schenker Group at Bradford City Hall in the 80's. Apparently Schenker had an argument with the bands drummer (Cozy Powell) and legged it, leaving very disgruntled fans standing at the venue.

Was that the same year when Graham Bonnet walked off just before a gig and never came back - that would have been mid 80s; or perhaps the tour when it was "clarified" that the big Roadie hiding behind the big speaker stacks with a les Paul plugged in, wasn't actually playing Schenker's solos ... apparently

Oddly, the warm up act was doctor and the medics, how was that ever going to work?

Now there's a memory - saw them at university the week or so after Spirit in the Sky hit No1 - god knows how we had them, they must have been booked months before when they were cheap. Anyway it was right at teh end of the summer term, was very hot, i had been playing cricket all day, and tehy were very good.
Oh, and most of their followers are very skimpily clad goth babes who also were very hot in more ways than one.
The whole sorry episode scarred me for life ;)

i saw Snowy White with Thin Lizzy - brilliant
He leaves, goes solo and brings out "Bird of Paradise" which aint too bad.
Fell asleep after about a quarter of an hour and when i woke up an hour later i think he was still playing the same song

A new England, on Bragg's album life's a riot (1984), covered by Kirsty in 1985

The Prodigy - all they do is eff and blind.
Pet Shop Boys - the concert was fine but went with my then girlfriend and felt like I was the only straight bloke inside Wembley Arena! And as for the packed tube train there and back............

Bon jovi god awful from beginning to about the 6th song thats when i left.

Whitesnake, self indulgent and tedious

Def Leppard on the hysteria tour some good songs but terrible show.

two well spread apart in time -

went to a show in Florida with american gf and some of her mates, 4 Tops (I think - 4 something anyway) were a support act (this was in the early 70's) - they had been pretty well known in their day but that was long past, a lot like Forsythe - voice gone, talent gone - too stupid to notice.

the second, Queen with Paul Rodgers - what a mistake. What was left of Queen (Brian May and Roger Taylor) were ok but Rodgers - drech!

Went to see the Lighthouse Family some years back, great songs but God, so bloody boring, no atmosphere and if I remember there was no shouts for an encore, just a few groans when they did come back out.

Wembley Stadium , a difficult venue to get a good sound. Tickets were sold as Bob Dylan / Santana, plus support , one of those being UB40, who had recently had a lot of success and got moved up the billing .We went to mainly see Santana who we had seen many times and were and still are a great band live .We went in early and Santana was already part way through their set and it sounded terrible , could barely make out what song was being played . UB 40 came on and all you could hear was the thumping reggae base line , not a great fan of them but they had a good brass section and were quite easy on the ear , but we could hear none of it other than the bass. Left before Bob Dylan came on and went into London to see a band at the Standard in Walthamstow.

Belle and Sebastian at the Albert Hall. A mate had a spare ticket. I wasn't a fan before and was even less so afterwards.

What a bunch of twee, knock-kneed, Farah trouser-wearing bedwetters.

Christy Moore. I have now seen Christy 4 times and on three of these occasions he was brilliant. However I went to see him in the Ulster Hall about 10 years ago and he was terrible. He was in a right mood, none of his usual banter. He had a new album coming out and insisted on playing nothing but tracks from this album which of course no-one knew. Anytime anyone shouted up requests they were completely ignored.

i really shouldn't admit to this but i went and seen gary glitter back in 1995 with my dad.i was 10 at the time, makes sense now.....no wonder he was winking away at me:D
