Worst Hole!!

There is one at Calverley GC leeds, cant give the hole number as it keeps changing week to week (long story) dog leg right, no landing area, out of bounds left and right then a 6/7 iron to a green that you cannot see, as it is so uphill, with steep banks all around it. Bloody mickey mouse hole, whoever designed it should never ever be allowed to hold a pencil again.
 
Stockwood Park - 18th
loosely described as a dog-leg par 4, but if your dog had a leg like this you would shoot it (out of kindness - you understand).

The tee is jammed up against very tall, thick, leylandii hedging, which bounds the practice area. Your tee shot is straight ahead. until you clear the end of the hedge by some way you have absolutely no view of the green, which is jammed in between some smaller hedging. Your line to the green requires a turn through all of 145 degrees and may be obscured further by more trees.

As a visitor, just how far your tee-shot needs to be to get a clear line of sight is a lottery.

Good line in from the shot putt area on the athletics track to the right of the fairway!! ;)
 
10th hole at Burntisland. Par 4 where you play an iron to a landing srea up the top of the hill. Then play a short iron aiming for a marker on top of a large scee slope behind the green which is still hidden from view.

The fairway slopes sharply downhill towards the green so a mishit oftens ends up on the putting surface. Overall a memorable hole for all the wrong reasons.

Basically a hole that goes down hill at about 45*. About 430yd par 4 but the slope is so severe that it's not impossible to knock one on the green and if you are unfortunate enough to have to hit a 2nd shot down it all you can do is a bunt forward as a full shot won't take off at more than waist height due to the severity of the slope.

To give you an idea of the terrain, right next door is an artificial ski slope.

The par 3 12th hole which takes you up onto the plateau part of the course isn't much better either. its even steeper than the 18th. Hence its name (Cardiac Hill). Mind you there's enough of those type of holes to make a thread of it's own!! :)
 
One of the worst holes i have played is the 18th at Burgham Park in Northumberland its a par 4 about 425 yards with a huge tree about 220 out which you would think would be easily carriable but its that tall and then after that you find the ditch that runs accross the length of the fairway but thats not all the fairway slopes down towards the ditch. Most people that have played it will know what i mean!!!

"A par four that requires more than a little thought. A big right to left sloping fairway, with out of bounds on the left, means that a fader of the golf ball has the advantage here. The green is hidden over the crest of the hill and is raised on sleepers. Either use the slope to run the ball onto the green or get your distance control and accuracy right to pitch it straight on. Left is a definite no go on this hole."


In reality you have to aim your drive well up the slope ie 45 degrees plus, cos if you hit it straight, it just rolls down the hill into the bushes at the bottom.Jeez I hate this hole. You cannot see the green as it is over a ridge, if you go left on your approach you have to chip over a railway sleeper wall 8 foot high.

Did I mention that I hate this hole

Right ... my head is in a pickle because I dont know of the 4th at Shotts is the worst or actually one of the best. It is THE DEVILS ELBOW a par 4, 409 yards from the big tees and is a dog leg uphill with OB right and a burn just to banish any hope you have of cutting the corner. I have played it 20 times and dont think I parred the thing. In winter it is a drive and either a brave 3 wood or a mid iron and a wedge to the green. In summer it can be a good drive and an 8-9 iron.

Yeah, but at least you get to play form a flat level tee on the par 3. That 2nd shot on the 18th is proper Mickey Mouse.

They should build another hole up the top and then catch the ski lift back down to the clubhouse :D
 
The 16th (I think) on the Kigbeare course at Ashbury Manor. It's a par 5 that has a massive drop about 125 yards from the green, it's like a cliff face. I putted my ball from 125 yards out onto the green (didn't manage to get it through the windmill though). Just one of the many boring and baffling holes on this "Golf Complex" (????)

By the way, I have absolutely no idea how the mow the fairway, maybe by mountain goat.
 
This got me thinking.I am sure there are a lot of bad holes on bad golf courses,but i thought i would restrict myself to bad holes on good courses.My winner is the 17th at Wentworth.Long boring,severe dog leg left with fairway running to the right.No bunkers to speak of (i did find an old one in the undergrowth down the right) It did slightly improve when they knocked down the awful house near the green on the left,without planning permission !
 
7th at Mollington is a 630 yard par 5. Tee shot is down hill towards a lake at about 300 yards. Big hitters have to lay up with an iron because its all down hill. Short hitters struggle to drive then clear the lake with the second shot.

Even with two decent hits, most people can't reach the green in reg. After the lake it has alot of dead ground so when you do end up short you have to chip to a green about 15 ft above your head. A 6 is always as good as a par!

Now that hole is one strange hole...you forgot that it is a blind tee shot really and the ditch doesn't go straight over but runs windingly diagonal accross!!......I think I have played it about ten times now and I am none of the wiser how the hell you are supposed to go about it....peg it up and pray....I mind Hendo said he just thought 'F''k it I'll just blooter it and see what happens' and he was convinced it was dead...turns up middle of the fairway,wedge on,8 footer and the league title is on our way!! :D

Strange that the way he tells it is that it was a 40 foot putt he hold across the green leaving the guy he was playing in tears and the crowd begging for more ;) ;)
