Went to the pro last week as was fed up with par / double bogey golf.

Now have a different grip (left hand stronger) and changed alignment - he immediately saw that i was poining my feet slightly towards the target rather than parallel to it.

Am going to stick with it as 2011 IS the year i'm going to kick start my game.

Next playing 2nd June and am a little nervous as know that the change started last Wednesday so it will of only been a few weeks (have another lesson on Saturday) and am trying to get to the range when i can - but since my first lesson have only picked up a 7 iron.

Do i avoid the course or just get back out there and plough on ?

I'd say avoid the course for as long as possible. :)

I had a few lessons last year and really tried to ingrain stuff before getting out on the course. I knew from experience how it can all go to pot as soon as the "need" to hit the ball and care about the consequences comes into play. I kept practising (garden, range, lounge, range, work :), range)

Went out and had a 75.

How come I'm back on 85 now?

Personally I'd be working flat out at the range on any swing drills and getting the new set up and swing feeling comfy. You still have a bit of time left and so maybe work on it at the range and then try out a few 9 hole rounds so you are use to it on the course. Aboce all - don't panic if it goes tits up and keep the faith

Think that you are right, am trying to cram in as much practice as i can but i know me and if in a round after the first three / four holes pride especially in front of playing partners will mean i just revert to what i know as it will still get me the odd par just then followed by a 7

18th July is what i'm aiming for as my comeback round which i know is still tight

I'm in the same situation, had a lesson and the only thing that needs to change is a strong left hand in the grip. The pro recommended making the change over the winter off season, but now I know about it it's on my mind!

So I've just brought a £7 wedge from Chav direct and cut about 3/4 down the shaft and a a £2 glove to draw the lines my hands need to be. I'm now sitting at work picking it up every half hour and putting my hands in the right positions.

The way I see it is I've gone from 24.0 to 24.3 in 3 comps with one to play on Saturday probably to 24.4. Club championships are in July, so one more comp to 24.5 then I will get an additional shot plus may have mastered the new grip and ready to go!
