On looking at the world rankings the top ten this week is made up of 6 Europeans and 4 Americans. My questions are is this a first for both -

1. More Europeans than Americans in the top 10.
2. No player ineligible for Ryder Cup selection is in the top 10 - e.g. Els, Goosen, Singh, Villegas etc etc.

I guess Europe will start favourites again for RC but it didn't work out too well last time. :D

......I'm bored so apologies for this pointless post.

I'm not sure we started favourites last time out in the US but I do think we will be this time on home soil. To be fair with some of the young guns coming through plus the seasoned campaigners I think we'll have a brilliant balance whoever gets in.

Interesting that there doesn't seem to be too many ROW players coming forward in the same way as some of the Europeans and to a lesser extent some of the US (Kim etc). IS that due to less opportunities, smaller purses and therefore points on the Asian tour or just a lack of talent being pushed through

I dont think it'll be long before we see Sean O'Hair in the top 10. Think hes a smashing player.

This next year could be a decisive year for the Europeans for the majors as well as the RC.

We've got the best chance in ages for any one player to win, rather than just relying on putting all the pressure on Harrington.

Next year we've genuinely got any from Westwood, Casey, Harrington, McIlroy, Kaymer, Fisher, and possibly even Poulter to have a good bite at the majors.

And apart from Tiger and Phil, the rest of the top US lads are solid, but uninspiring players - Stricker, Perry, Furyk, and Cink are all darn good players, but they wont produce anything we haven't already seen from them over the years.

Pie in the sky, maybe, but with a fair wind on the day, how about :

Casey for the Masters

McIlroy to win at Pebble Beach

Westwood at St Andrews

and

Kaymer at Whistling Straits ( Not that I know anything about the course, but I'm assuming long and steady will be the standard prerequisites )

If one of our guys gets to the next step, I think it'll be just like the late 80s all over again, with each inspiring the others to greater heights.

Won't it be nice to watch the Ryder Cup next year without all the whooping and shouts of get in the hole, I thought the last R/C crowd behaviour was appalling.

Might be worth a £5 punt at the bookies to bet on a non-American to win every major next year. Odds should be worth a look at.

Mcilroy has never shot in the 70's around St Andrews either as a amature or pro in 20 something rounds so he may be worth a punt for that
