these seem to change with every event lately

I am now not bothered who is No1 as next week it will change again!

It's the same outside the top3, 1 bloke wins an event worth a few quid (and points generally) and he goes from obscurity to the top20, ok maybe a slight exaggeration but probably not far off.

whats everyone elses thoughts?

Until someone does a Tiger and starts winning 8 - 10 tournaments a year with a couple of majors thrown in, it's always gonna be like this. It's a reflection of what is a fairly level playing field. Frankly it doesn't bother me who is number 1 as long as our boys keep playing the way they are.

its all down to the way the rankings are worked it does highlight current form quite well and its good to have lots of chopping and changing IMO especailly when its europeans, beats the same old number one for weeks on end, that said if somebody proves themselves that much better than the rest and establishes a healthy lead good luck to them!

Once the guys all play in the same tournaments (or regardless of event, just in the same week it should start to calm down one way or another I think (Rorys gonna edge it too :D)

Without wanting to be a dick, he carries a UK passport. Your passport (assuming you're from one of the home nations) will say United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. GB is Eng/Sco/Wal, Ireland in this case equals NI. Together, they are the UK.

(Not doing a good job of not being a dick here...)

As for world rankings, I don't really see the point. You don't win anything for being world #1. I'd rather have a few majors in my locker and never make it to #1 than be Luke Donald.

The system doesn't bother me, nor does the fact it keeps changing, as someone above said it reflects the fact that there are a lot of equally good players about at the moment.

What does bother me is the constant media frenzy about it. BBC headline one week - "McIlroy takes No 1 spot from Donald". The following week "Donald regains number 1 spot".

I'd quite like to read about who is doing well in the tournaments that week, not who happens to be no 1 that week. It will keep changing regularly for the forseeable future. I hope this constant obsession with it does down.

There are far fewer world number 1's than major winners.
Winning a major or two is great but being the best golfer in the world would be a better reward in my eyes.

I think if you offered Donald or Westwood a major over a record breaking run at #1 I know what they'd choose. Yes its nice to be officially ranked as the best player on the planet but everyone wants a major on their CV

You're not doing a good job of being right, either. :D

It's United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, not Ireland.

An Irish passport is a completely separate entity issued by a different country, the Republic of Ireland. McIlroy is entitled to one of those if he wants, too.

How do you say, with "ish" or similar in the name, that you are a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great britain and Northern Ireland ?

Am i "Ukish" or Ukgbnish"

Yea, Northern Ireland is part of the UK, Ireland or Eire isnt.

Those from Northern Ireland are British, those from Dublin are Irish.

Either way, fantastic to see our boys hold the top 3 spots, long may it continue.

I played better than everyone else on the planet for 4 years or 4 days?!?!

I know what I'd want to say looking back.
