Do any of you follow a specific workout in the gym? I do 3 fullbody workouts a week doing workout a b a one week then b a b then back to a b a the next. I take a days rest inbetween and also do 'some' cardio inbetween them. I do big compound moves like deadlifts, squats , bench press, military press, bent over rows, pull ups and a few isolation exercises for calves, biceps, triceps and my traps. Just interested in seeing if anyone does do gym work and what they do?

Despite my desire to be a little fitter than previous years, the only exercise I get is walking from the car to the kebab shop!
On a serious note I started yesterday with the healthy eating and going running later today. Can't afford the gym membership as well as the ever looming golf membership, plus my wife might insist on some sort of compensation since I'd never be home. The local 20yr old gardener springs to mind.... :D

I have recently started jogging to and from the fridge, also I have put the biscuit barrel on a lower shelf to force me to bend down then up with a handfull of choccy bickies, sweat, I'm flipping dripping.

My new years resolution was to get fit and give up smoking. I've been running 3 or 4 times a week since then and have recently joined the gym. I'm focusing on core strength and upper body as well as the running.
Feel absolutely brilliant for it. Lost over a stone and a half. Midweek boozing is now a thing of the past although I feel a good few pints is essential on the weekend to maintain ones mental health. God I'd kill for a fag though!

That's good going mate well done. Remember to train you're legs aswell as there the biggest part of you're body. Running doesn't count as it's not resistane training

I thought that, at the age of 76, I was too old for such exertions.
However, I discovered the Big Workout on Fitness TV, Sky Channel 282. I have been doing this for about six weeks now, three times or more per week. My objective was to improve my golf but, although I manage the workout very well, the golf does not improve. :(

They are good exercises yeah, free weights are much better though as they work more than just one muscle group, they work stabilizing muscles too. Good exercises would be barbell squats, good mornings, stiff leg deadlifts these all work the core aswel especially the squats. Just go on you tube and type the exercise into the search bar and check them out so you can master the correct form

I am usually the before shots - skinny and weak. I have tried to get into a fitness regime but basically I'm way too lazy and anyway by the end of the month the clocks will change and I'll be on the course in the evenings

still time to have a go at this if you want some pre-season preparation

The previous two lessons (and the out takes!) are on the website too, with the rest of the course appearing weekly.

PS anyone got experience of rehab after a ripped acl? Managed to muller mine last month skiing. To operate or not to operate, that is the question...and my physio is officially a sadist (but in a good way). In the meantime I do my yoga on one leg (and fall over a lot)...HELP please anyone?

Leave it for 6 months. This will give time for any swelling or inflammation within the joint to go down and will also give you a chance to give the physio a go.

If you can strengthen your quads sufficiently you may be able to dodge surgery. If it is still giving way or holding you back, the scaple awaits i'm affraid!
