Does anyone else find that work seriously hinders your golfing career??

How I'd love to walk out of work right now, never to return and just play golf everyday. Wishful thinking and I'll be putting the lottery on tonight.

Nice thought mate, especially when the weather's like this but familiarity and all that..... I bet even the tour pros get fed up with pounding balls day after day.

The thought is better than reality.

When we first moved to Inverness I worked from home and used to do all my work in the afternoon and evenings.

I used to play everyday during the week and after about 3 months the gloss had worn off to be honest. Found it hard to get people to play with, as everyone else was at work. Used to play with e few seniors but they had their own comps and some didn’t like you playing with them if you were better.

I would love to play more but I know from experience it was a bit lonely.

Just at work today and really can't be bothered. Wish I could just put some holidays in and have the shift off but I've used most up already.
On a brighter note I'm looking forward to changing my membership to a top draw course over the next few months. :)
What doesn't help though is I've started my healthier approach for the winter and I could really do with a sausage and egg roll from the shop down the road....... :D

Yep I feel this, I could play every day. I know the lownly thing but I would get over it.

I was made redundant a few years back (at Christmas - what a nice gift). I have to be honest and say I didn't get another job until the follwing August and I wasn't always busting a gut to look too hard. It was only when HID got the hump (and cash got tight) that I got myself into gear.

I loved it and was out playing and practicing everyday. No concidence that my handicap started to drop and if nothing else I was much more consistant. I didn't get bored at all as there was always someone looking for a game or I was happy to spend a couple of hours working on my game. As we have cards with cash on for the bar and I whacked a load on with my payout meant even if the weather was bad I could spend time in the clubhouse and the pro shop.

If I could get away with it I'd love to chuck a long sick period or do a Reggie Perrin and jack it all in but I don't think I'd be able to swing a club once HID had finished with me

I work from home, and could have played a lot more, but once or twice a week is ample for me. I am a social golfer, so never play holes by myself. Without some banter, i get bored very easily. Just a warning for when i play in any forum matches !! :D :D

About 6yrs ago i was in a job i abosolutly hated when they gave a few of us the option of voluntry redundancy i snapped it up. Got a decent redundancy packeage and didnt work for well over a year (well not my actual profession) when money started getting tight i would help out mates with odd days here and there labouring.
At the time i didnt play golf anywhere near as seriously as i do now and only wish i could turn back the clock, would rather of spent my redundancy money on playing golf than pissing the lot up the wall and in the bookies.

Work stopped me making Beau meet earlier and is now getting in the way of me making it to Goswick this year, yes I am a little P****d Off.

I wouldn't play every day or anywhere near it if I didn't work but having the chance to play whenever I wanted..... now that would be the carrot for me. Picking and choosing the good days or always being available when there's a comp on and a load of shift working mates bugger off somewhere nice for the day. I'd just love that.

I think the point is having the ability to not worry about work at all and do as fyldewhite says and pick and choose the days. Even if you don't golf every day, there is plenty of life to live other than working for a living (for the lucky ones at least)

Fyldewhite has it spot on here. If it's a nice day being able to choose to go and play rather than get on the train to work would be perfect. Rather than praying all week that it won't hose it down at the weekend

Yep.
Was made redundant in Sept 2003 and didn't get another job until May 2004 - result was a reduction from 12.8 to 8.6. After getting job handicap moved upwards again.
Was made redundant again in May 2009 and didn't get another job until April 2010 - result was a reduction from 12.0 to 9.6. Having worked for 6 months, handicap back to 10.6.
When you have the time to play two or three times a week AND practise two or three times a week, the handicap comes tumbling down.

I was made redundant in July '97. Started a new job in late September. Had 6 weeks of solid golf. Golf in the morning, job hunting in the afternoon or vice versa.

Loved every minute of it!!!!!!!

I have just been made redundant but I am so skint I am not sure I am going to be able to play too much golf.... I played the other day and was then dumb enough to post my card on facebook.... wife not happy!!
