This coming Saturday will be the first round of golf in nigh on 6 weeks, what with work getting in the way and pulling muscles in my back laying flag stones, I've not swung a club for 6 weeks.

Thought Saturday gone was going to be okay, but after getting up my back was still buggered, so not to let Kraxx down I walked the course with him so I could mark his card in the comp. It turned out to be a cracking day weather wise once the drizzle blew over, sun was out and it was most pleasant walking the course and not having to push my trolley or worry about what club to play. I think taking my clubs with me on a Saturday is where I'm going wrong :D

Walking up the 1st and later on the 10th, 11th and 16th normally with having to push a trolley has me out of breath. I'm not the fittest person on the planet cardio wise, but just walking the course with no trolley, on the aforementioned holes I walked up them no problem, I was not out of breath, so that got me thinking to getting an electric trolley, not sure which one would suit, any good one or bad ones to look at or avoid? Prices seem to be the same across all sites, or they did for the Motocaddy ones I looked at.

My other reason for getting an electric trolley is that apart from not getting out of breath on the uphill holes, it'll save my back somewhat as well.

So this coming Saturday, not swung a club for 6 weeks, it should be interesting, it'll be like starting from scratch which might be a good thing, we'll see.

I reckon a leccy trolley is good for 2-3 shots per round, IMO.

Might be good for your back if you don't knacker it getting the battery out of the car. Would you get lithium battery or the old lead acid type?

Not the fittest guy cardio wise doing less exercise isn't the best idea you have come up with.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

In one respect that is very true, but then being a heaving wreck standing next to my ball waiting to get my breath back so I can play the next shot isn't ideal either.

Pushing a trolley around the course isn't exactly strenuous work and for the few holes where I do get out of breath, it's not the 20mins that Dr's advise.

I do other exercise that gets the blood pumping and which gets me out of breath, I just figured why not make life easier for myself on the course.

I have a leccy trolley, always swore I never would but a bad back meant I succumbed.

I often use it in comp's, but not always, and when going for a knock in the evening I tend to carry. But it is always dependant on how the lower back feel.

The lithium battery is great as it is so light and easy to get the trolley with battery attached out of the boot.

With regards to golf and exercise: in my humble opinion golf isn't played to get fit, do your exercise off the course in order to get fit to play. Not the other way around!

So I'd say getting a leccy trolley is a good call

My back isn't great - actually my back is a train wreck. I couldn't play golf without an elec trolley. I can walk 18 holes no problem, but playing golf, even with the elec trolley is a struggle after 12 holes.... I played Sunday, and I'm just about pain free now. Sleep Sunday night was almost non-existent.

However, it might not do your cardio any good, but get the elec trolley and sort your cardio out with a different exercise.

Disagree. If a leccy trolly will let him play a game he enjoys and play relatively pain free it'll be better for his long term well being in terms of feeling good about being out and about and to be honest if he's walking five miles per round (approximately) then he's getting some exercise anyway.
