Women's Golf on TV

Let's claim that the conditions and altitude add 10% to your total distance.
We are therefore saying that Lexi Thompson can hit a golf ball a distance of 580 in two shots - 580+10% = 638 yards (the whole in question was 635 yards and she went through the back of the green).

Can you (and I am sure we won't get a single word answer out of you and you will find another way to put these lady golfers down) hit a ball 580 yards in two shots?
Yes

Lexi Thomson's average driving distance on the LPGA is 270.6 yards. Mike Weirs on the men's version is 270.5 yards. She certainly gives it a bit of a smack, although pretty short compared to the forum average.:)

All the distance arguments are missing the point anyway.

If you're watching on TV it makes no difference if someone hits it 250 or 300 yards, the difference isn't discernible.

Certainly watching the singles of the Solheim and Ryder Cup on TV distance off tee doesn't make a lot of viewing difference as 95% of the play we watch is pitching, chipping and putting,

I have to report that I measured one of mine at 288 yards on Sunday. It may or may not have been wind-assisted, I'm not telling! :D

I think the distances are irrelevant. It is about getting sponsors interested, especially in Europe, getting greater media coverage, not just on TV but in the press and building and developing a tour for years to come.

To be honest even watching MENS golf bores me to tears sometimes - I can barely watch if Tiger isn't in the field.

The Solheim was terrific but I wouldn't ordinarily be bothered to watch unless it was a 'headline' event, and even then it's only a 'maybe if there isn't a good movie on SKY'.

I can't stand watching the 'normal' mens European Tour stuff, watching Jamie Donaldson beating Rhys Davies really doesn't float my boat.

I'm not interested how far the women hit their ball, only how good their approach shots are. In most coverage (with a field of 100 players) you wouldn't get to see that many drives anyway!

Exactly my thoughts, majors and big tournaments with big fields interest me. If a woman can reach that level should the governing bodies allow it, i would watch.

I thought it was great, superb viewing and some truly excellent golf played.
However I had to watch it with the sound off, I'd rather listen to the 'mashed potato' crew than the screaming banshees that were on the sidelines!

I think womens golf is boring. As they dont hit as far they are always straight. I love watching bubba and phil showing a bit of magic from knee high rough and moving balls round and under things. "women golfers..... Can you stop hitting it straight please"

Happy to oblige!

I don't have a problem with all the hysteria at team events like the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup. Adds to the atmosphere, and I imagine the crowds that attend the events love it. They pay their money so go for it.

People that shout out 'get in the hole' and' mashed potato' at normal tour events, just so they can hear themselves on tv, should be kicked out though.

Same here don't mind the shouts during these team events when players are actively encouraging it. Things like the Waste Management open with the caddy race etc. The biggest problem I had with shouting during Solheim was the number of issues there seemed to be with the audio feed.
