Winter Olympics

I knew my nephew would have the hots for the curling skipper and wasn't wrong. The eyes AND the accent and he's hooked!

Back in the mid 90's there was a young female technician serving in the same Sqn as myself who gave the skeleton bob a go. At the time there was no Ladies European competition but they were allowed to compete in Mens' European Cup events. She won one of them, beat the best blokes in Europe; unfortunately whilst winning the competition she didn't hold the title - with it being a mens' comp.

We, nor she, could work out why she was so good at it with minimal experience; it certainly wasn't down to fitness, she used to struggle to pass the Basic Fitness Test.

She decided to chuck it. I tried on a couple of occasions to persuade her to continue, the main point of my argument being that a winter spent at Europe's premier winter sports venues had to be better than a workshop and vehicle park in Herford. I think the main decision maker was the fear factor, she got tired of battling the terror of standing at the top of the run.

The cameras make the run look relatively flat. When you see how steep it is from the side, you realise how brave the competitors have to be. 85 mph with your nose an inch away from the icy ground. Mad totally mad.

down to the wire, I actually am getting into the curling (again). I enjoyed it last time out then forgot all about it till this years games. A very tactical and skillful sport.

go team GB

Find myself strangely hooked by Curling despite not really having a clue to what is going on from a technical point of view.

This.

It's always great to see Amy Williams :o

And especially this.

Wasn't sure I was going to like the Winter Olympics but it has me pretty well hooked. I like to become an expert in minority sports for a few weeks every couple of years ;)
