winter golf

In the past I have always been enthusiastic about playing throughout the winter...however this wether is trying my patience - since end of September I have only played in 2 comps - out of the last 9 weekends the course has been closed for 7 of them, and when I do get to play I have to play off a mat. Anyone else having this bad luck or is it just Manchester living up to its reputation?

We've had a full competitive diary off grass tees to normal greens. Its been heavy underfoot and testing especially in those 50mph winds a few weekends back but the home counties seem to be ok

Since the season ended we have only missed 3 saturdays,yes we have got soaked and cold,but it's still golf.

Hi Guys,played a course, 9 holer,called Woodside G.C. at Holmes Chapel,Cheshire,dry as a bone Pro shop told me That the course has only been closed for one day in 7 years because there was a bit of snow on it,teeing off grass and playing on the greens, worth the 1 hour drive for a game.and keeps the swing going. ps. its a pay and play visitors most welcome

I would happily play, but I havent for the last 3 weeks or more, course was closed when I last went to play, comp cancelled, since then I have had a bad cold and done something worryig to my shoulder, I haven't even swung a club for three weeks let alone hit a ball, I hope it gets better soon, I am having withdrawl symptoms.

Weather is looking good in dorset this week and early next week so as i have a bit of xmas money early so off shopping saturday morning to get a hybrid then off to play a new course (Moors Valley). Looks like i will be playing solo but i can live with that

Sunny, calm but very cold in Edinburgh this morning. I actually really enjoy playing when it's like this but I'm not going to be able to get out until after Christmas. Hugely frustrating.

Weather awfull in North London in November and when the course closes it tends to be at a weekend, so for us full time workers yes the withdrawals tend to set in. Hopeful for this weekend though.

Don't rush to play this one chaps - sticks in fields. I used to work on the doorstep and so I saw it being created.

mancity101 - our course has been open throughout the rainy period, and we are next to the River Mersey. It sounds like your Greens Committee and/or Head Greenkeeper closes the course at the earlist opportunity. Let's face it, you're going to get rain in winter.
