I'm mindfull of the fact Dodger wasn't too happy about us putting a 1/4 page about wine suggestions for golfers in the mag last year.

So,this year I have decided to put it online where it doenst take any space away from pure golf news and put this post in the out of bounds section! I hoope everything is in order this time Mr Rodger! ;)

Anyway, for anyone who enjoys a drop of vino here's some selections from Mark O'Halleran the tastings editor at Decanter - and you thought we had a good job!

If you were peddling heroin you might just feel a twinge of guilt, but alcohol which causes more misery than all other drugs put together but you peddle it with nonchalance. I realise I am seriously out of step with our culture and the vested interests in the status quo -that doesn't mean I'm wrong, just saddened.

Are they sure about this one Mike?

Cono Sur, Vision Single Vineyard Riesling, Bío-Bío
Valley, Chile 2009 £8.99 Majestic
Broad and vibrant on the nose, with lime and kerosene.
Exhilarating pungency and on the tongue it's zesty, zippy and zingy!

Having spent 32 years in the Aerospace Industry I wouldn't go within 10 miles of any wine that smelled or tasted of Aviation Fuel, (although some of the stuff I drunk when I was stationed in Cyprus came close!!!)  :D

Mike,

Looks like a fine selection of wines on offer.
I have no problem at all with getting the heads up on some good quality wines for apres golf!

The rioja for £9.99 I will likely look into buying, quite partial to rioja's.

I found it interesting and I for one do not liken it to peddling heroin.....far from it.

IMO you are wrong.

There's nowt wrong with booze. It's the misuse of alcohol that is wrong.

I'm sorry if you have been touched by it in a negative way, but, imo, the vast majority of people have a healthy relationship with it.

I don't believe that the majority of heroin users have a healthy relationship with their drug of choice. Therein lies the difference.

Just my opinion, of course.

Nay god, if.people are stupid enough to abuse anything then they deserve what happens. Me I love a drink, I have a belly and a loving wife, do I drink everyday no, its called moderation and if some left wing fruit job wants to label me a junkie, so be it.

Good to see Golf Monthly are listening to grumpy readers and sticking to what they do best and keeping anything other than golf out of the mag.....it's a bloody golf magazine after all and if I wanted to read about Rioja I would buy Wino's weekly.

Mind you I cannot believe that Aldi's Collezione Italiana Montepulciano D'Abruzzo at £3.39 a pop isn't featured in O'Halleran's selections!! What the feck does he know??!! ;)

I can't believe Mike still taunts me with alcohol. It's bad enough reading about you guys on trips, after a good round or the morning after the night before (losing trollies into ponds etc) and reminding me about the days when me and Mr Fosters were inseperable buddies. Now I have to read about lah-de-da wine. The landlord got it right - white wine of fruit based drink for the LADIES!

Now if you were to use Marijuana as your comparison drug then you may well have a point but Heroin ffs?!?!?! I don't think so.
