Has anyone recently played Windlesham…it used to have a bad rep for the condition and lack of drainage….is it still the case?

Yes it is still poor in the wet.
Not strictly true Homer - I joined last year and apparently they put loads of money into the drainage system over the last few years. Considering all of the rain that we had had over the last 2 years, it actually wasn't bad at all (most of the long term members that I have played with did say that it used to be bad)

I disagree. Having played it in October last year after a period of rain it was still bad especially in the usual holes down by the A322 towards the M3. It was better but I wouldn't call it fixed. Are you still subject to a lot of closing in wet weather or playing a reduced course?

I'll be honest, I didn't think it was that bad at all but totally your opinion (particularly if your club drains well). They did close it on the odd day when it hosed it down but it pretty much mirrored what other clubs in my area did.
As far as I am aware, they didn't have a reduced course but as I only play on Saturdays, they might have done that in the week.
From talking to the long term members, I was expecting the worst but after having played at Sherfield & Tylney in the winter, Windlesham was a doddle and the refreshing thing is, they actually want to spend money on the course, so it's not finished.

Tylney has always been bad in the winter and as for Mill Ride, then it is either closed or several holes are shut. We stayed open for the vast majority although our 15th and 16th have been struggling and so were closed, primarily for some work to be done to stop the waterlogging. I like Windlesham and on a day like today its a great place to play. It is a shame it has really struggled since opening in the winter but if you can get it fixed it will go from strength to strength

Let me know - I can get you on as a guest. Where was the old location btw?
I live in Somerset now but thanks for the offer.

From the maps it looks like the Old Course is now part of the Gordons School Sports hub
Chobham to Bagshot Rd (A319) just before the roundabout on Guildford Rd (A322)

I used to play there around 40 years ago, when I lived in Knaphill.

It may well have been. There was a 9 hole pay and play (can't remember the name) that opened up or at least operated which wasn't attached to Windlesham although I don't think it is still functioning. That was just past the Gordons school sports fields on the left as you head to Chobham

I had remembered the course as the Windlesham probably because it was on or near the Windlesham Rd, as said it was 40 years ago.

Earlier than that late 70's.
I did not know that they built a new one on another site.

If you follow the thread it is probably a false interpretation of what went on. I had assumed that they sold Windermere to the school (when I looked at the map some time ago) and relocated the course.

I was surprised to see the comment that it had simply closed down as it used to be absolutely rammed.

Pretty sure Windlesham Golf Course did not exist when I lived there.
