Why do people on ebay win an auction and then wait 3 days untl they tell you they do not want them

I now have to wait before i can claim a re-list without cost to me and reverse the original ebay charges

Winning muppet said he was on holiday with limited internet and meant to retract his bid

Wilson Staff Ci9 irons back for sale again !

Really annoys me that more isn't done when people don't pay. I can't see why you can't leave negative feedback but you can do a seller.

I've just started on ebay, I thought once you bought it was a contract? otherwise people can screw up any sale they want with stupid bids then not pay..........doesn't make sense not to protect the seller as much as the buyer

Yes, that's generally what I know to be the case. Mrs V was selling some old clothes and someone won a bid but went AWOL. She had to launch a case with ebay and after a few weeks they said they couldn't resolve it. She was refunded listing fees etc and no doubt the buyer has been blocked or warned.

Gumtree is far superior. If you don't want folk coming to your house, you can always drop it off to them.

Not heard anything good re gumtree, at least there is some protection on eBay, but as I've just started I might get burned, any tips?

C'Mon all you EBAY experts before I do something wrong, need experienced tips and tricks for buying and selling......

If you see something on Ebay, as in any walk of life, that seems to good to be true, it is more than likely a scam, or a fake item.

Do not buy computer media, like CD's or DVD's 99.9% are fake.

Do not buy memory cards again 99.9% are fake ( I write from experience on this one)

If you buy something, make sure you pay as soon as possible, just good manners.

Always leave feedback.

When buying make sure you read the description thoroughly and said description is accurate to what you think you are buying. A description selling a Playstation 3 box for £20 is just that, a Playstation 3 box, there is no Playstation 3.

When selling stuff and you are using your own photographs, make them crystal clear, nothing worse then someone selling an item with the remarks that there is a slight scuff mark which you can see in photo 3 and photo 3 is an out of focus blurring mess.

and last but not least, just use your common sense

I am waiting on payment for a few items for a few weeks now, it takes the mickey...

My tips for selling on ebay:

Always send stuff using a proof of postage method. Ebay/paypal will always side with the buyer on any disputes and if you cant prove you sent it/they received it, they will just remove the money from your account.

Pics sell stuff. take decent ones and take close up ones of details parts, ie lables, badges etc etc

Be very clear with what is included, condition etc etc.. allow no room for any complaints. if an item of clothing has a small hole in it, say it does..

Treat everyone on ebay as if they are trying to F you over and you wont go too far wrong.

Good luck!!

Oh last one, be aware of all fees... Listing fees, final valuation fees, paypal fees... they can soon add up. you can sell something for £10 but probably end up with around £8...

Oooh another one!!

If you are selling something you have no idea on the real value you, dont accept any buy it now offers early.. In fact, i never accept offers of buy it now if i have started an auction. (also be realistic with your price expectations, i pretty much start everything at 99p)

But for example, last week i was selling an old super nintendo SNES! i found in the loft, it was boxed, with games etc and a multitap, but the console didnt power up. I was offered buy it nows from 4 people within 2 hours of listing it ranging from £20-£30!! I later found out, the Multitap thingy is worth good money and i ended up selling by auction for £75!!

Believe changes are in the pipeline to be able to leave limited negative feedback for buyers... Were able to in the past and it got a bit 'silly' as bad sellers simply left unwarranted feed back to buyers who complained... If selling set your control panel to block those with a poor or recent history of non-payment from bidding on your items...

Thought of a few more:-
  1. Only sell to those other ebayers that have good reputations, i.e. a lot of sales, purchases with positive feedback
  2. When buying something check the buyer history, you used to be able to see how many times a person had changed their 'Ebay' name, a lots of names changes suggests something fishy.
  3. Use Paypal where possible or if other means of payment are used wait until the funds have cleared and are in your account before sending the item(s) it is you are selling.
  4. Use register signed for post as proof of delivery.
  5. If you end up selling local to yourself, and the buyer wants to come to collect, take the item to them, rather than have them turn up on your doorstep.
