Why rush ?

It's not about rushing around for a quick 18holes, I like to play at a good steady pace and not waiting to play every shot.

If I've not got enough time for a full round and a beer afterwards then I won't play because if you're clock watching then your golf suffers.

There's a couple of fella's at my club and they like to bragg/boast it only took them 2 1/2 hours and moan about slow play. They hit their own ball walk on there own and don't talk to each other.

It's so annoying when a group in front are lining putts up for ages after their playing partners have holed out and you're waiting to play your approach shot.

Better golfers only seem to take longer in my experience. Yes they seem to spend longer over shots and reading putts but as they are rarely in trouble it's tee to green and no messing about in between. My rounds with single figure guys at my place take no longer or no less time than others. At the end of the day at prime times you can only move at the pace on the course.

Don't think this post is about prime times though, we all know that won't be a sprint, I think it is more about a general ethos for playing.

Even in general play they (good players) don't take any longer. Clearly slow play is a big issue but what is the answer? Marshals, naming and shaming in the 19th, public floggings? What can you do to make sure you get your quota of golf and a healthy family time balance. There has to be a solution doesn't there

Education. There are slow golfers, all courses have them. They are well known, and they are slow for a reason, and it is irrespective of handicap. Guys playing with them need to be equipped with electric cattle prods to 'educate' them during the round as to how to pick up a few seconds here and there. It will work. They could start with the pro's, and then roll it out throughout the game.
