Just watching the golf on TV now, and Mickleson hits a shot into the rough, then 10-20 fans come rushing over to surround his ball and crowd around it.........im just wondering what the point of this is?!:confused::confused::confused:

I've never been able to understand the frenzied effort spectators put into this either. If I was there I'd stand somewhere nearby but keep well out of the scrum.

To get the best view of his next shot?

Yeah seems logical, and obvious.....not sure how i didnt realise that. Still seems pathetic, these fully grown men are literally tripping over themselves to surround this ball!

erm where would you think is the best place to get a close up view of a golf stars shot?

It's not for me (the practice ground is my area to spectate) but when the crowds are 10 deep its quite a thing to be 10 feet behind a Mcilroy 4 iron:swing:

As i said i had never thought about it that way....sorry to go off topic, but is every comment you post sarcastic??

there is nothing sarcastic about my post, its a genuine question based on your initial naive post.

If you hadn't thought of it before maybe you could answer it- genuinely interested.

p.s do you follow my postings with interest:smirk:

Nope i dont follow your posts, it just seems most topics i open youve added another hilariously sarcastic comment.

Maybes because i havent long been into golf, nor have i ever watched a golf event in person, maybes that explains my naive post?

glad you find them hilarious, and sarcastic. I see you can do that as well.

I should reciprocate, that would be fair, yes? but I dont feel the need to do so, wonder why you feel the need to comment on me?

The most ridiculous thing is that the fans by the tee probably went nuts as soon as he hit the shot, shouting things such as "you da man" and " great shot Phil" regardless of where the ball was going.

Don't start me on these numpties!

Course marshals should be given electronic cattle prods instead of those quiet signs. Fellow spectators should then identify the cretins who shout this stuff and the Marshall simply pokes these morons' collections of dangly bits with the prod on full power.

Either that or Phil should be given carte blanche to brain said oaf with a club of his choice.

Oh please don't start me on the fans that shout out. It really gets on my nerves. One reason I hate watching PGA golf on tv. They tee off on a par 5 and people shouting "in the hole" or even worse stupid things like " mashed potato ". Hope when they tell their friends that was me their friends slap for being stupid.

At least at Augusta they have a policy of removing patrons who shout out.

"Removing" them is good of course. However it would be better for the game of golf in the long run if they were to be "eliminated" (James Bond style) to ensure they don't infest any other tournaments with their mindless drivel.
