Who was the last Titleist staffer to world #1

I can't remember Duval being with anyone but Nike but there you go

Duval only signed with Nike in 2001, after an issue with his shoes when he wanted to wear Nike shoes and Titleist were not happy. He was number 1 in 1999 and won the Open in 2001 with a full bag of Titleist clubs and a Scotty Cameron putter. Cameron made a special edition putter the 'Inspired by David Duval' - I used to have one - which they only did for Titleist staffers. There was also one made for Mark O'Meara, but it was pulled from production when he switched to TM.

You are right about Els - he didn't get back to number 1 after his Open win while a Titleist staffer.

That must be gutting for him.. he would easilly have been #1 without Tiger on the scene. Same goes for Monty.

Phil would have been Number 1 in any other era...

Monty - maybe, maybe not.
Although he won a lot, most were in Europe and wouldn't have carried many ranking points. Back then the events in USA were ranked much higher......

I think so. Without tiger I think that Ernie, Ratief, Monty and Phil would have had a ding dong battle in the Majors from '97 to 2007. On one hand it's a shame that we were denied that, but then again watching Tiger destroy the field at Pebble Beach in 2000 was similarly compelling.

Does the Nike ad featuring Duval not suggest he won the open with Nike irons or something along they lines?

I would have put money on it being Phil Mickleson, only for me to find out that he's never made it to World's Number 1

Astonishing.

I think given how well Mickelson played around his major wins its a surprise he never got to number one at all which says how well Tiger was playing. Would also have thought Els being No 1 early/mid 2000's too when he had a chance at winning all 4 majors which I suppose shows how well big Vijay did to dislodge Tiger for a small time.

Just found this:

2001 British Open - David Duval

Driver: Titleist 975 with a True temper EI70 shaft
3 Wood: Sonartec EX with a Fujikura Vista Pro 90 shaft
Irons: Nike Golf prototype blades with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts
PW: Nike Golf 53°
Putter: Scotty Cameron by Titleist prototype
Ball: Nike Golf Tour Accuracy prototype

So he was in transition over to Nike at that stage. No mention of sand wedge, which I think was a Vokey.
