who is the worst major winner?

Re: ZZRe: who is the worst major winner?

ben curtis is a streaky player not a bad player and he's a nice chap as well. on golfchannel they had an interesting stat celebrating his 100th pga tour start. in 100 start he had only 6 top-10 finishes but 3 of these were wins and one of them a major!

Re: ZZRe: who is the worst major winner?

The below are / were all excellent golfers, but did they really deserve to win a major. Majors are not given to the most deserving player, it is down to class, form and luck, but sometimes class can be missing and you can still win!

Yang
Cambell
Hamilton
Micheel
Beem
Jones (Steve)
Sluman
Mize
Simpson
North
Rogers
Mahaffey
Pate

Too early to say for Yang, but the bookies would give you any odds you like on Beem, Micheel, Campbell, Hamilton or Lawrie winning another major.

In fact, I think that even if they played as a scramble team .....

So every UK player to win was more than deserving then? :D

Of those, I would omit Jerry Pate. He was a great prospect, started his career strongly, won a major in convincing style, but then ran into injury problems which surely reduced the number of wins he had.

North is a particularly odd case. 2 major wins and only one other Tour win. At the Ryder Cup in 1985, although reigning US Open champion, he folded like a deckchair in his singles match. Lightning does strike twice sometimes.

I dont agree with the hassle Lawrie gets I think his final round and play in the subsequent play off was outstanding

For me the worst is Todd Hamilton not least for having a slippery frog in his bag

Agree re Lawrie. Of all the names mentioned i think he is one of the most likely to win a tour event again. OK not a major, but he is still competitive, and he knows how to win. After he won his major he played well in the Ryder cup and did win the Dunhill Links, or whatever it's called.

Some of the others mentioned, have hardly featured on a leader board, let alone win again since their major.
