Who holds the world record for longest drive in a tour event ?

Wasnt it some guy in the USA whose drive hit a cart path and bounced down it, 750-800yds or thereabouts? I recall reading about it and he had an 8I BACK to the green.

Not as long as your average internet golfer, but a good effort.

The longest drive recorded in a regulation golf match was a 515 yard drive shot by "Mighty" Mike Austin during the US National Seniors Open Championship on Sept. 25, 1974.

EDIT: In 1975 George Bell of Australia shot a drive of 550 yards on the 577 yard 6th hole at St. Michaels in Sydney Australia. (He three putted for birdie) Because this was not in a PGA event, the record is not recognised.

You Been Told!!!

I once hit a drive to the fringe of the 554yard par five 6th hole at Omagh.

Shame I was playing from the tee box of the par 4 7th and duffed it :o

I drove the 18th green at our course once, all I remember is the greenkeeper giving me a bollocking as I reversed back out.

Thank you thank you, I'm here all week.

Fragger has the best Wiki link :)

I just read Mike Austin's biography - it's a great read

Quite an amazing guy who had a really interesting life and met some amazing people, and look at the age he did it !

There is a par 5 at a course in/near Oldham, where it is possible to hit the green in one. It is only a 3 wood/driver to get across a slight valley, the fairway then turns right down the hill and the green is only protected by 2 bunkers. Didn't get anywhere near myself, but a few claim it on uk golf guide. With a fair wind, close cut fairway, kind bounce.....
