To be honest, as someone new to the game who sprays balls around the place with depressing regularity, the legal decision (Court of Appeal?) a few years ago which ruled that golfers who mis-hit shots will be liable to pay damages if they cause injury to other people (even if they do shout fore) made my mind up. Negligence is now taken as read (though I have no idea why).

Insurance company propaganda or not? Its all American sue culture and its sickening and should be kept out of the game, being hit is part of the dangers playing the same as other sports, you don't see many amateur footballers suing other players over a dead leg do you?
For damage to other peoples property, I would have thought it comes under some household insurances?
