I stopped putting a 3 iron in the bag not long after i started. And had a 909h in the bag for a couple of years now.

When i went to AG for the GM fitting experience, Liam who took the fitting said i'd be as well getting 3-PW.

Since the clubs arrived, I have taken the 3 out with me in bounce games and not really had any more difficulty in hitting it than a 5 iron, and a bit harder to hit than my 909h.. a couple of toe-y ones that go a little left and about 150 but nothing drastic.

As well as the poll(if it's worked), what i'd like to know is. If a 3 iron is getting put out the bag, why? Do you still have 4 and 5 irons in the bag? They aren't that much easier to hit are they?

The Poll didn't work. I am thick! Basically it was to see who had a 3 iron in their bag and also what is the longest iron in the bag.

I chop and change a little bit at that end of my bag, on windy days I will usually carry one or both of the 2 and 3 iron, on calmer days i tend to have the hybrid and then 4 iron upwards

I alternate between a 3 iron and a 2 iron. I do have a hybrid but it doesnt come out of the garage very often and its not coming out for the foreseeable future.

I don't have a 3 iron anymore as my set didn't come with one. I did like having one before hand but now have a hybrid that's the loft of a 3 iron and I find it so much easier to hit that the iron did.

I'm thinking the same at the moment Fundy. I struggle to hit a fade with the iron but *think* i can handle most wind conditions with the lower trajectory it gives.(we've had nothing but wind up here for the last couple of months!) And i can shape easier with the Hybrid when it's a bit calmer.

Call me greedy, but I use 2 hybrids a 20 degree and a 23 degree, I find them easier to hit than a 4 or 5 iron.

So my longest iron in the bag is a 6

There isnt much difference in loft or distance between the 20 degree and my 5 wood, so im thinking of resting the 5 wood and getting a 27 degree hybrid to fill a slight gap between 23 degree hybrid and 6 iron.

Each to his own

I want a 3 iron but just can't find one that suits I do have a 2 iron as i find that I just hit irons better

Until recently I had a Mizuno Fli-Hi 21 deg, not a true 3 iron but pretty close. I've recently replaced this with a 20 deg hybrid, probably not quite as long but so easy to hit and get in the air.

My longest iron now is a 4.

That is exactly what i was getting at Phil. When i had a 3 iron last time. In my Hogan FTX's, the 3 iron was my nemesis. I could hit 4 and 5 relatively well for a 20 handicapper, but i'm sure i could have made the game a hell of a lot easier if i had gone your route. Now that my handicap has come down, and my swing has improved, i can actually hit the longer irons a bit more consistently.

^^^^ Not meaning to sound condescending Phil.

Do you still have your Fli-Hi, if so would you be interested in selling it?

I've still got it but recent experience in strong winds at the Bea Desert meet made me realise it's a top club to have in the bag on certan days so sorry, it's not for sale.

3 iron for me and I hit it better than my hybrid. Can be a bit slappy but generally not to bad. That said when I get a driver I'll have to drop a club. 60 in the winter but not sure what goes in the summer...

I much prefer hitting irons, strange as it may sound I find them easier than hybrids. Maybe I'm just hitting hybrids wrong

My set only came as 4-PW so not given the option. I could get a 2nd hand one if I wanted it but to be honest I prefer the variety and forgiveness of a hybrid (just not the one I'm currently using)

Havn't had a 3 iron in the bag for nearly 10 years. I can hit one, I have hit one really well but not consistently. Got more of a 2 1/2 iron replacement hybrid and a Fli-hi that is very like a 4 iron but easier to hit. Longest ral iron I have is a 5.
Brendy and Freddie will be along sometime saying that hydrids are the work of the devil and should be banned...!!

I tend to use the 3 iron during the summer, when our fairways are tight and firm. In the winter use a 19 degree hybrid. The iron is also great for hitting low shots out of the trees. ;)

I'd love to put my 3 iron back in the bag. Sadly, it's not going to happen.

I had a shoot-out last week at the range with my W/S hybrid, a Callaway X-18 and an old Macgregor 455 with YS graphite.

The straightest? Callaway (by miles). The longest..you can guess where this is going.......... :o
