I love golf and whisky in almost equal measure...if you will excise the pun and while visiting St Andrews I wanted to go to a distillery.

Which are the best distilleries in the area? Anyone been and can recommend a tour for any of them?

Thanks

How far are you willing to travel? There aren't any nearby to St Andrews that are open to the public yet. Honestly, St Andrews isn't a good base for distillery tours.

Tullibardine is probably the easiest to get to, it's near Gleneagles/Auchterader. But I'd probably bite the bullet and go further afield and look at the lowlands or speyside distilleries. They're both 2-3 hours drive away if you're lucky with traffic.

Willing to travel about an hour at the most. We are heading to Edinburgh for a day afterwards though, are there any near the city?

TBH, i can't think of Many in the central belt, most are either Speyside, Highlands or West coast. and a few lowlands.

There's Glengoyne north of Glasgow that has a nice visitor centre.

Glenkinchie distillery is about 20 minutes outside Edinburgh in East Lothian.

Not my favourite malt tbh but about the closest you'll get.

Tullibardine and Strathearn distilleries are likely the easiest for you from around Perth, or Pitlochry a wee bit further afield.

Glenkinchie as said already for Edinburgh, but the Scotch Whisky Experience on Edinburgh's Royal Mile (up by the Castle) is decent although it isn't particularly cheap.
