As part of a GPS I was bought for christmas I have a free green fee at any De Vere Hotel Course. The are a few which are out of the running due to distance from home.

Which of the following course do you think is the best and worth taking a day off work for?

Slaley Hall, Northumberland
Oulton Hall, Leeds
Mottram Hall, Cheshire
Carden Park, Cheshire
Wychwood Park, Cheshire
Herons Reach, Lancashire
Belton Woods, Lincolnshire

Which is best?

Thanks

The carrick on Loch Lomond is not on your list :D
Slaley Hall hosts the senior masters and Wychwood Park has a europro tour event in July. Both are good courses. Carden Park has a Nicklaus designed course but The Carrick is their premier course. Belton woods and Staverton are very mediocre and set up for corporate days. :D

If your thinking of going in the winter dont go to Slaley it gets very wet. but that would be my pick in the summer.

I have played Carden, Belton, Mottram, and Herons Reach.
Slaley is by far the best of these.

I played Belton when it first opened, so quite some time ago, was distinctly average at best.

Mottram was ok, 2 very different if I recall, in terms of difficulty at least.

Oulton is ok, without being anything spectacular. Pleasant enough.

Looking forward to Slaley though, our Golf Trip is heading there for 3 days in June.

What's up with Belton Bob? We played there last year, thought the Lakes course was quite good.

I felt the Lakes was squashed in the middle of the Woodside with too many short mickey mouse par 4s.
Too many geese which leave their mark everywhere.
Poor bunkers and prone to flooding at the slightest hint of rain.
Nice last hole though :)

Never played Belton, Herons Reach boggy it the rain.
3 days cancelled in September 2008 due to the rain.
Slaley is the best for acces from west yorks.
Herons Reach is a long distance from west yorks M62/M60 are bad if you have an early start.
Just my honest opinion, bty welcome and enjoy

Herons reach is very average. I was dissapointed when i played it and it was a lovely sunny late spring day.

Played Mottram with a few of the GM lads.

Rough is very penal, greens weren't in the best of nick (middle of April when we played).

Good facilities and a good welcome but not a stand out course for me.

Agree with Bob's comments on Belton. Played last Summer and was not impressed with the the course, the condition of the fairways or the mess left by the geese (one tee was unuseable due to the amount of goose droppings on it). Found the lakes course gimicky.

All?...... :)

I've only ever heard good reports about the ones around this way (Carden/Mottram)......

However, it does surprise me the lack of enthusiasm for the courses this company seems to have on the websites.
I've considered most of this lot over the years.....never made it to any.....nothing to go on at all if you rely on t'internet for useful info. It's all about the hotels.....
