I'm pretty sure this will have been done to the death but im a newbie and cant find what im looking for. so if anyone can link me to a thread or answer me here id be grateful

im after a gps, it doesnt need to be super fancy. the SG5 is a bit much IMO, and is too exspensive, the sg 2.5 looks ok but its a very small screen.

it has to be able to do the front back and middle of greens and it has to have a feature to allow me to measure how far im hitting my shots when im practising

thanks

The 2.5 is perfect for it.
I've got one - the screens not too small it just isn't as big as the rest! Doesn't need to be for the data you want.

Simbo,

I use the SG4 which does everything that you mentioned you wanted, just its not as fancy as the SG5.

Mind i know a few people with the SG2.5 and have not heard any complaints.

Although I've got a Skycaddie SG4 myself, I know a couple of people with one of these which they really like. Just watch the courses you play are listed as the list isn't as extensive as other makes. That's why I got the Skycaddie.

I was looking to purchase a GPS system just before xmas,I asked about the Skycaddie SG2.5 and the guy in the shop said unless you are very good on computers stay away, and pointed me towards the golfbuddy, upon checking course availability I discovered my course was not on the golfbuddy,I then did a price match on American golf for the SG2.5 (£159) Chester Depot,it is the best bit of equiptment I have bought and simple to use..£30 a year to download any course and the device holds 20 courses..and the info it gives you is excellent..If you are looking to buy one of these, buy the SG2.5,

2.5 gets my vote as well, infact the only person I know with the 5 says in hindsight he should have just bought the 2.5.

Hope this helps.

the guy in the shop said unless you are very good on computers stay away,
If you are looking to buy one of these, buy the SG2.5,

The guy who said you need to be good with computers - was he long-haired, dressed in a bear's skin, carrying a fat wooden club and saying "UG" to everything????

Anyway, with regard to skycaddie. I have an SG5 and can honestly say to anyone.....don't do it.... :( :o
It's not worth the extra outlay. No way Jose. I just want to know the distance, that's it. The graphics are about as impressive as a year 5 kid playing with a drawing program. The unit itself is not £100 more impressive than any of the others.....£10 maybe. I like it, but a £69.99 sat-nav looks like a super-phone from 2020 compared to the stoneage crap that sky caddie thinks is impressive.
It does what it says on the tin, end of. Buy the best value one and enjoy it's simplicity regardless of colour or not.

ok,
just been surfing about

is the sky caddie 2.5 worth almost double the money of the caddylite?? if so, why?

Skycaddie Sg2.5 is not double the price of the Caddie Lite.
I played with a guy who was using a Caddie lite and it is a decent bit of Equipment, and it does everything required, but I have checked the price of Caddie Lite and it will cost approx £130 delivered to your door, then you av to down load courses at £10 per course and pay a registration fee believed to be £10,for £159 & £30 (per year)registration the Skycaddie will do exactly the same as the Caddie Lite can do plus more,ie Let you know how far you av hit the ball..hw far to lay up..how far to fairway bunker..
you can also download as many courses as you want all for £30 per year, plus buy one now and you also get a voucher for a free golf lesson with a PGA pro in your area also a free round of golf at any DE-Vere golf course..
