Which gps to buy.

After a gps as I can't use the one in my iPhone in comps.

Would like one that shows a image of the hole your playing and I don't really want to spend anymore than about £180.

So what would people recommend?

How about a range finder the Bushnell v2 is about £180

i use a skycaddie sg5 and think its great, full view of the hole also tells you distances to hazards and distances to carry hazards. You get distances to front middle and back of green and you also have a marker that you can move around the green to where the flag is positioned for exact distance to the flag.

Only downside to products from skycaddies is the subscription fee of around £30 a year but imo its worth it.

I have sky caddie sgx and would definately recommend despite the £30 subscription
Holevue mode is an added bonus provided available at your course.

battery life is amazing, mine can last 3 rounds easily without having to re charge it.

Bog standard Skycaddie 2.5 for me and its more than ideal. It does everything I require and its perfectly in your price range.

I'm guessing he means he can see where the hole goes and if there are any ponds/streams/bunkers over the hill using the GPS overview.
Hard to do that with a bushnell

It gives all of the hazards etc, where they are and at what distance as well as an over view of the hole - everything but a photo!

It can tell you how far to the obstruction that makes the tee shot blind and how far to clear it.

only if you get one that has those features, most of the standard just have distance to the green.

I'm not knocking GPS, i would prefer exact yardage to the flag and use a stroke saver if its a course i've never played before. Plus i have trouble picking out where the flag is sometimes in relation to front, back etc.

Im not too fussed about the exact yardage to a pin as I personally I don't feel I'm consistently good enough to hit exact yardages. As long as I have a yardage to the front,middle and the back of a green I'm fine. A gps will put my mind at ease playing new courses because It will show me how far hazzards are etc and give me a layout of the hole.

I have a Callaway Upro which is perfectly reliable and does the job and you should be able to pick up pretty cheap as they are due a new model out soon i think. Only downside is the screen is a little smaller than some of the competitors newer models.

Personally not a Skycaddie fan because of the annual fee, they are clearly decent if youre happy to pay it though. Played with someone who had the new Sonocaddie (V500 i think) and that seemed excellent and he was chuffed with it, having only had it a few week.s

I have to say my SC5 was a godsend last week. Very hard playing a new course and it helped knowing how far I had to lay up to ideal wedge distance on some of the longer par 4's and how far the bunkers were off the tee
